BMW R65LS for sale 1983. £3800.

It was imported to the UK from Germany in the 1990s.

While the frame had been powder coated when I got it, the rest of the bike was poor cosmetically.

I have stripped, cleaned and replaced and refinished parts and it is now in excellent condition.

Parts powdercoated: -
-top engine cover
-airbox
-Centre stand
-indicator stalks
-handlebars
-seatbase
-seatpeg mounts
-battery box
-headlight/fairing mount frame

Forks stripped, vapour blasted and rebuilt with new seals and reflectors.

Loom cleaned and checked.

Head bearings cleaned and greased.

New exhaust valve guides (Roger Bennett).

New piston rings.

R/H exhaust thread replaced (good job-pinned sleeve).

Heads and barrels vapour blasted.

Carburetors-ultrasonic clean and rebuild with new 'o' rings, needles/needle jets and diaphragms.

Starter stripped and cleaned.

Boyer Bransden electronic ignition.

Paintwork done-original BMW Polaris silver. Painted as standard with the matt black lower part of the tank.

New side panels.

New rear footpegs.

Stainless gear shift linkage.

New grips.

New seat cover.

New Avon Roadrider tyres

New set of BMW mirrors

Front master cylinder stripped, cleaned and rebuilt. It is a 13mm master cylinder (original was 15mm). It probably needs the original. I think the 13mm was for the single disc.

Surefoot style side stand (Motorworks).

Lots of stainless fittings; bolts, wheel axles and nuts, rear brake rod and screw, front disk mounting bolts, and bevel box fittings.

Stainless downpipes and silencers.

Wheels and swing arm have not been painted, but are both tidy.

Lots of receipts for parts over the years came sigh the bike.

Best estimate for the mileage is around 65 000. Speedo was changed by previous owner. There is a signed statement from a previous owner and past MOTs to verify mileage.

Free from Vehicle Excise Duty and MOT.

I haven't used it for for 6 months, so it might need some minor tinkering. Will pull it out if there's any interest. I've spent way more than I'll get back from it, but I don't ride it and space is limited. Viewing welcome. I'm in Guisborough which is the edge of North Yorkshire and Teesside.
I can send a video clip of it running via WhatsApp.

Wow, absolutely stunning. My first ever Bmw was a R65LS, I loved that bike and wished I hadn’t sold it. Your machine looks a great example, wish I had room to accommodate it. GLWS🙏🏻

That really does look lovely - if you appreciate BM's it has got to be attractive

Have a bump from me!

The handlebars look higher and wider than mine. Are they the higher OEM version ive read about, or aftermarket?

I think they are Renthal bars. They might be a little higher than the 'low bars', but not as high as the 'high bars'. If I recall correctly, the old boy I got it from said he fitted them as he found the 'low' bars a little uncomfortable. The riding position is sporty but comfortable.

There's one on Ebay at the moment that looks like it has the 'high' bars on. Looks original.

While it might look like a bargain if it goes for under £2k, there'd be the same to spend again getting it tidied up.

John Robinson, who is a dealer posted on the airhead facebook page - might be worth a call.

"Hope you’re all well and enjoying the weather (although as I type this I can smell rain clouds!). Hope this post is ok.
As the dust settles after the Stafford Show, I find myself somewhat short of stock. I know the market is subdued at the moment, but I’m looking to buy good, honest examples of Airheads. Anything from ‘69-‘95, and anything from needing a re commission, through to sparkling.
Drop me a note, or give me a bell on 07836 758534 for a blither if you’re thinking of moving yours on.
Stay safe"

Please, please, please, can somebody buy this R65….I just keep looking at it and imagining it in my crowded garage!🤓

Thanks for the kind words about the bike. No-one has been in touch about buying it, so I've put it on Ebay now.

Good luck with the sale Paradiso👌 If I seriously had x one less bike I would be making you an offer. 🙏🏻
