Hi folks,

Moly and I have an opportunity for 2012 to possibly put on an off road event for Big Bikes. We would like some feedback or input from you guys to see what you would like to see in an event, the type of terrain or challenges you think are appropriate for Big Bikes (over 575cc).

Obviously we would like to see a variety of bigger bikes at events and we really need your help in formulating an off road event that is suitable and enjoyable.

We look forward to you feedback and ideas.

cheers

Burt and Moly

Should this event come to fruition, will it be run under one of the usual organizing bodies, ie ACU, ORPA, AMCA if its not please make shure your insurance and medical responsibilities are fully covered. I dont want to be a damp squib, but the rules governing the running of motorsport events are very complex.

i really enjoyed the kind of terrain at the hafren, fast loose fire roads, rocky gullys and not to much mud/ruts,hopefully you will find a venue like that,if it has some optional trickier bits for riders with more talant thats even better,i suppose in addition this sort of terrain is possibly less affected by poor weather,i dont think i would have enjoyed myself quite as much if i had spent the day trying to heave a 190kg bike out of deep mud:D

Would certainly be interested in that. :thumb

Might be tempted
I've done the ryedale, kielder and Cambrian on my exc which was great.
But would love to try the xchallenge on something!
Presuming any possible dates would be well away from the rally's

I did the big bike challenge at the Kielder forest this year and really enjoyed it, it was held over two days (Sat/Sun) so a night off the leash  but it was the format that was so good.

Each day consisted of a lap of about 70 miles of fire trails and slightly more technical stuff in the woods or on grassy tracks but all of it was achievable by a relative novice like myself, for those that wanted more of a challenge there were three optional loops that involved logs, roots and mud but you only did these loops if you wanted too.

I hope to do more events like this next year.:thumb2

any idea what part of the country? i wont be doing the ryedale this year so another 2day(?) alternative would be great:thumb2

Having taken the xchallenge round ryedale, beacons and cambrian, ( with the only limiting factor being me) as long as its not tight twisty though trees like day two of the ryedale or lots of long deep muddy ruts then bring it on  famous last words :P

there was mention of another welsh rally in the early part of the year whilst at the cambrian, does anyone remember the details ?

I'd be interested in two points - I am new to big bikes and perhaps an amateur/beginner's run would be a nice way to get people watching who may have never contemplated this sort of thing to get interested. Perhaps open to those who have only recently got their bikes or full licences.

Also in recognition to the amount of ladies coming into the big bike scene - a ladies only contest?

Maybe an Enduro treasure hunt? A set given amount of locations to find a station with a hidden way point connected to a specific stamping system, like they do in orienteering competitions. The whole course to be done by a set time. I can advise on this last one, as I set similar myself (but not with bikes).

Do you mean the Dragon Rally, Frostyuk? This takes place in February and tickets sell out fast. But there's no runs or competitions, its a social get-together for people not afraid to camp in snow :D

I'd definitely be up for this on my 1100GS. I've changed the 41 lt tank to a nice 22lt one to make the bike a bit more manageable.
Count me in.:)

+1. Anything that is manageable by most on a big bike. Make the special tests optional I suppose.

I'm in on my 1150

Trees ruts hills

Bring it on

It will be run under one of the usual organizing bodies as insurance is a top priority.
