Last few times I have been out on the bike it has been 2 up, with the mrs on the back I got what felt like I could feel the drive shaft turning through the foot rests.
Out yesterday with my daughter on the back, lot lighter than the wife and could still feel it but not as much.

Out today on my own and can not feel it, just feel the normal engine running if that makes sence.

Is this normal or should I be loking at changing something as somthing is on its way out???

All help appreciated

As it seems to be weight related could it be tyres ?. I have Tourance EXP`s on my GS which sets up a whirring noise above 50mph. A tyre dealer tells me that tyres can set up strange noises, i hope that hes right or i have a problem

No this is a feeling through the footpegs not a noise, the tyre noise does change with mrs on the back but thats fine, this is more of a feeling of the drive shaft turning

Had the same sort of feeling on my 08, but when it went in for the MOT I was told that there was play in the rear wheel bearings. These were then changed. Try testing for play at 12 / 6 o’clock. I believe that a play of upto 2mm is OK at the wheel rim.
After they were changed this buzzing feeling went.

Very little play in the rear wheel at 12/6 oclock.
It is notso much a buzzing as opposed to more of a knocking, everytime the wheel turned if that makes sence

If I was you I will chacke you wife first to se if she is sitting properly :D then take it from there , maybe the bottom is interfering with the wind turbolance :blagblah
If that's not good take it to a dealer to have it inspected , sorry not the wife , I mean the bike !

It could be that your suspension is getting more compressed with the pillion, thus increasing the angle of the driveshaft so that the universal joints (UJ's) work through a bigger angle. The roughness you feel is them knocking as they accelerate/decelerate whilst turning as they are not a true " constant velocity" joint. Either increase rear preload with pillion and see if it improves, or drop the final drive off and inspect the UJ's for play/wear/roughness. Failure of the universal joints is not uncommon.

Thanks for that, going to drop the FD out tomorrow and have a look.
The suspension is wound right up with the wife on it but it sags a bit but not too much.

Would have to be some wind turbolance from the bottom to be felt through the footrests

The wife at times gives great wind turbulance but it acts more as a turbo than a vibe through the footpegs:D:D

Ok taken out the final drive and all looked well, joints on the CV's where a little dry and had a bit of a tight feel to them so greased them all up and moved them around a bit and all seemed good.

As The oil leeks when dropping the FD I changed the oil in the FD aswell and it looked clean and good, no bits in it so all good there too.

Peeing down with rain here so will wait till the weather gets good before a test ride is going to happen.

Dropped the oil out of it tonight and its the cleanest looking oil I have ever seen come out of any gearbox.
So thats a good sign, no bits in it either.

Looks like it was more than likely just dry CV joints.
Will see at the weekend when me and mrs go out for a spin.
