Bike back to BMW again!!!

So I bought a bike from a BMW dealer back in Feb and today will be the fourth time it's had to go back to the dealer to have work done, under warranty thankfully.


March - New Speed Sensor
August - New final drive
September - new exhaust flappy valve thingy
Today - knackered starter!

Its a 2012 GSA , 14K when I got it and now has 21K.

Is this normal or have i got a duffer?

Is the speed sensor in the rear hub? That could just have been a prelude to needing the rear drive unit renewed?

Anyway - sounds like you have had worse than average luck with that bike.

Can't be a whole lot more to fail, surely? (fuel strip springs to mind, though..........)

dont think that the fuel strip is an issue on a 2012,my 2013 gsa with 21000 miles not had any issues you have been unlucky i reckon

It's a good job all the parts and labour is so cheap on these bikes that repairs are never an issue.

Starter could simply be sticking brushes but BMW will probably chuck on a new starter.

Think you have unlucky. The T.C. Is generally thought of as a well sorted bike.

I don't think this is normal for any bike. The only bike I ever had that suffered your level of faults had 7 previous owners, doh! Obvious really, I should have walked. BTW it was a Ducati, 1st generation Multistrada and a great bike when I could get it started.

My bike has had one previous owner. The Stealer i bought it from supplied and serviced that bike to the original owner. Go figure!

41K total on two TCs and had no problems at all with either. You have got a lemon.

It's on warranty and the dealer has fixed everything, in February you will have the option to extend for £37 per month which is exactly what I have done with my 2013 GSA.

They are great bikes, with a second hand bike there will always be a question mark over the treatment from previous owner(s) but bikes bought new can go wrong as well.

Just ride it and stop fretting about it, if it continues to annoy you trade it out. These are mechanical objects not religions.

£444 per annum..cheap as chips..My 2010 has the extended warranty and for 3 years I paid and got nowt...then I had a clutch malfunction. BMW replaced clutch, both cylinders , swingarm bearing and UJ on final drive. Cost me nothing. I am all square at present and would definitely not have had a grand spare to repair. As for reliable, hell yeah mine is. 50k and recovered only once
