That looks like a serious case of owner neglect to me.
Yep - Viareggio is I believe on the coast - looks like the bike has been regularly parked in the sea
Sure JB will be along shortly to say it would never have happened to an 1150

That looks like a serious case of owner neglect to me.

Let's hope their decision is as quick as a Puma! Wish you well getting the result that you want.Just a little update in case anyone cares.
Took the bike to North Oxford dealership, they snapped some pictures and said it looked like a new rear swing arm would be required and likely a new engine (something about not being able to just replace the cases, they come as a whole engine unit). They opened a Puma case with headoffice.
A few days later head office required more pictures, which I was asked to take by North Oxford. I took them and emailed them through on Monday. Now awaiting a response from headoffice on the Puma case.
I'll update again when I have any more news.
That's why 30 year old airheads are worth more than your plastic fantastics
With just a little bit of elbow grease they come up like new. The secret is not to have any paint to blister in the first place. Has anybody stripped the paint off an Oilhead or LC engine?

Would a 2 year old jap bike look like this thing does? Neglected or not

I've ridden my bike all through the winter, on salted, gritted roads, and don't have one spot of corrosion anywhere.
Here it is caked in salty mud.
And yes, stop being an arse on a snowboard.![]()

I never used ACF50 on it but after every wash I would spray it with GT85.
Great news, good luck with the new setup!Happy days!
BMW have come back and confirmed engine and swing arm will be swapped out. New engine on order, will be here in about 14 days.....lets hope with the new one slotted in, I can enjoy riding the bike rather than worrying about is disintegrating. ACF50 again at the ready!

I had a Versys that looked pretty terrible (worse than that) after a year of all season biking. My GS has stood up much better, but it did cost nearly 3x the amount
Amazing how it varies...I have a 45,000 mile 2008 Versys that is pretty much corrosion free, and certainly in better shape than my 3 year old twin cam when I sold it. Though I will admit to it having used two more chains than than the BMWAmazing how it varies...
I'd rather have a GS covered in corrosion than a fucking Versys!![]()
Why doesn't that surprise me...
