With just a little bit of elbow grease they come up like new. The secret is not to have any paint to blister in the first place. Has anybody stripped the paint off an Oilhead or LC engine?

Just a little update in case anyone cares.
Took the bike to North Oxford dealership, they snapped some pictures and said it looked like a new rear swing arm would be required and likely a new engine (something about not being able to just replace the cases, they come as a whole engine unit). They opened a Puma case with headoffice.
A few days later head office required more pictures, which I was asked to take by North Oxford. I took them and emailed them through on Monday. Now awaiting a response from headoffice on the Puma case.
I'll update again when I have any more news.

I had a Versys that looked pretty terrible (worse than that) after a year of all season biking. My GS has stood up much better, but it did cost nearly 3x the amount

Yep mine was exactly the same, some times it was left until the weekend to clean as it was my daily ride to work, no corrosion at all. Sold it with 10'000 miles on it and the new owner was over the moon with its as new condition. I never used ACF50 on it but after every wash I would spray it with GT85.
Now waiting for delivery of my new XR. So riding my 17 year old Honda VTR at the moment and that has minimal corrosion too.

I've ridden my bike all through the winter, on salted, gritted roads, and don't have one spot of corrosion anywhere.
Here it is caked in salty mud.
And yes, stop being an arse on a snowboard.

Likewise. I also spray my bikes with this stuff. I previously used WD40 but was converted to GT85 about 10 years ago.
Once sprayed with it the bike seems to clean up easier, as well as keeping it rust free. It's also not as smelly and oily as WD.
BTW, it's sometimes sold by Aldi at half the price it costs in Halfords.

BMW have come back and confirmed engine and swing arm will be swapped out. New engine on order, will be here in about 14 days.....lets hope with the new one slotted in, I can enjoy riding the bike rather than worrying about is disintegrating. ACF50 again at the ready!

I have a 45,000 mile 2008 Versys that is pretty much corrosion free, and certainly in better shape than my 3 year old twin cam when I sold it. Though I will admit to it having used two more chains than than the BMW
