I have a problem with the bike cutting out, wondered if any one else has this problem. It usually happens going from fourth gear in to fifth gear, any where from 120 to 130 kph. When I change up the bike cuts out for two to three seconds .Sending my head towards the dash board very quickly. After that two or three seconds the bike continues on as normal. This only seems to happen once or twice only per ride. The bike has been back to the dealership three times to be looked at .But ,as they can only ride the bike to 100 kph they can't replicate the issue.Any one else had this happen to them?

What do you mean by cut out? As in the engine switches off, or the engine is on but you have no drive?

Sounds to me like that immediate deacceleration force forward as the bike changes the gear. It doesn't do it all the time, just now and then. Is it happening as you change the gear using the GSAP ?

I have had that a couple of times using no clutch, and if youre doing 80 plus and it whips the power, and youre not straight in the next gear, you lurch forward in the seat.

There's probably a good case for an aftermarket / adjustable metal gear lever if you dont have one- shouldn't have to but there you go.

The QuickShift cut out can sometimes cause a momentary jerk if the nshift was too slow or a small glitch in the cutout timing. Cutting out for 2 or 3 seconds is something else entirely

2/3 seconds delay.............are you sure?

It could just be that you have a habit of rolling off the throttle very slightly as you change at higher speeds, as one would if de-clutching for a change, so the QS gets confused.

With my RS I find that prompt clean upward QS changes need the bike to be accelerating, with a fixed throttle opening & plenty of revs. Downward QS changes need a closed throttle. The system gets confused when presented with unexpected parameters.

Can't say I'm a QS fanboy TBH; just another added complexity, imported from the race track, waiting to malfunction.............usually outside warranty.

I was about to ask - genuine question - how useful / necessary is a quickshifter on an adventure bike? Those who use them, do you really rate them?

a Quickshifter is not necessary or particularly useful but it's just another toy to play around with , I love mine and it always puts a smile on my face when hard on the throttle going through the gears using it :)

I had one on my 1200 and now on my 1300, I use it all the time, apart from between 1st and 2nd as a rule as that can be a tad rough

Up changes are nice and quick and smooth when you’re on the gas and help avoid helmets banging

For me the best use is on downshifts, I always trail brake into corners, the quick shifter lets me come down the gears without having to blip the throttle whilst two finger braking, so it avoids me pogoing the front end when I get it wrong

As for the OP, I’ve had it a few times on the 1200, you tap the gear lever just enough to cut the revs but not enough to shift gears, feels like you’ve stopped dead, not nice

The secret to getting the best out of the quick shifter is to be rough with it, be either on the throttle or off it, not constant throttle, don’t touch the clutch lever and wear boots not ballet slippers (y)

I've Ordered ASA, But will still use the GSAP when off road or ragging it :D
You won't have a choice not to use gsap on the ASA bike when you do a manual gear change. Its not quite as direct as the non ASA when changing gear as it's still using the electric actuators to declutch & change gears. It's fast at changing, probably a few milliseconds different, but is slightly slower when changing particularly higher up the gears and rev range. You do get a slight lurch in between changes sometimes. The system is supposed to tune itself so mine may alter slightly with more miles on it, it's only done 600 miles so far.

How about if you use the clutch?

120/130 in Melb...very brave..

:D

Some answers to your questions.Yes I'm using the quick shifter, always do when accelerating hard through the gears. The engine completely stops reIving and then I have no drive. I am certain it is cutting out for 2 to three seconds.I already have the metal gear stick.I am not backing off the accelerator ,not even a fraction. This is the fifth bike I have had with quick shifter.I live on the Mornington Peninsula so I do have opportunity to achieve these speeds unlike Melbourne.I haven't tried to do it with the clutch, thinking I shouldn't have too. Thanks everyone for your replies and suggestions. So far I think Stella Artois wins.Might have to have a few before the next ride ,might not help the situation ,but I won't care as much.

I think i may have had this last week on mine.. but not 100% sure as it only happened once and cant say for sure under what situation, but I was on the motorway doing 70mph (or so!) and I think i changed gear but not sure.. what i do remember was it was as if I’d throttled off and was under engine braking for a couple of seconds.. quite scary in the fast lane of the motorway! I thought maybe it was the radar detecting something and havent had it happen again, but still only go about 1000 miles on it and not much motorway riding, so I’ll keep an eye on things!

If you have the crash protection (or whatever it's called) and you come up behind a vehicle too fast it will cut power
