Out with Bobsnew on the Longmynd but his GSA refuses to start.
Panel lights up fine but dies as soon as he presses the starter button. After about 5 mins it resets and lights up on button but cuts out again when starter pressed. Battery shows 12.3 volts.
Any suggestions?
Recovery enroute.

Battery under 12 months old and showing 12.3 volts. Battery on my 900 shows 12.1 v and is fine. Just wondering.

What size socket fits the scruple pin? Can't get at it as the angle of the widget bracket blocks it

The voltage on the battery doesnt really give you the full story. Does it maintain that voltage under load? i.e. when the starter is pressed

Can't say as it just dies when the starter is pressed.

Swap batteries and see what happens...

Ditto
It is the cranking amps that turns the bike over not the voltage which are different

Sounds like the battery is falling down when a large load is applied to it.
If it still does it with an alternative battery known to be good it suggests an abnormally large load being applied such as a shorted starter motor…

As above, duff battery.
If 1250, problem with valve decompresser, usually when engine is hot, might start when it cools down, had this issue with my last 1250, which is why I've gone all Japanese.

I had exactly this on my R1250GS on a battery (not the original) that was just 15 months old and having got it checked, discovered that one of the cells had started to fail. Replaced with new battery (again) and no problem since.
