Bike dies when starter button pushed

After a 3 hour wait on the top of the Long Mynd, BMW assist arrived , diagnosed battery fault showing 3.3 volt jump started okay, returning bike to Rybrook for their diagnosis and decision

Had similar on my 1250gs as it had stood with the auxiliary lights / ignition on, I now carry a sealy booster / jump starter which works if I’m a muppet again but also helped my riding buddy out on one occasion, his was actually diagnosed as a duff battery ( from a batch of duff batteries ) by local BMW dealer as his GS is still under warranty, I’m sure he’ll be along soon to chip in his tuppence worth of wisdom though 😎

And the answer is - 'Battery Knackered'.

Glad you got home OK Bob.

Had exactly the same on my 6 month old 1250 GSA last month, 12.4 v showing but same symptoms even though used regularly. Assist arrived, ordered and fitted a new battery the next day and has run fine since. Duff batteries seem to be common on late models????????

The bikes with Rybrook now hopefully will get a new battery in the morning, I certainly don't want another BMW assist experience.

Further update, having dropped the bike off yesterday afternoon at Rybrook Wolverhampton, they supplied me with a rather nice courtesy bike, tested the battery overnight, confirmed a faulty battery, overnight delivery of a new replacement that was fitted this morning, so well done Rybrook Wolverhampton for a seamless service, as for BMW Assist, I await a response.
