So the missus is wanting a trip over to Ireland before we attempt a European run so planning on a week to ten days going round Ireland.

Wanting to go round Belfast round the top past Derry then down to Sligo and out Conemara then down through Galway and down to Cork following the coast. Then follow round upto Dubiln stay with some freinds there.

Last time i was over was a camping trip with the lads many moons ago so just wanted to ask if anyone had any recomendations for good hotels to stop off at on the adventure.

Cheers
Mark

Now is an excellent time to buy €uro,s with a seriously good exchange rate.

The Gurus at Failte Ireland have actually come up with quite a good route

I would suggest not planning anything , but going with the flow , there is an
abundance of accommodation along this route.

you could even give me a shout !

In over thirty years of riding in this country I have never encountered a bike unfriendly place Mark. As Civil says just go with the flow and you'll be grand. :thumb2

Ehm Some places around Belfast, Cork (??) Limerick and Dublin the locals can be a bit too friendly with your bike!!!!

Apologies to Cork yins if I besmirched your virtue there

Basically Most places are great!

Views and Food etc etc are marvellous

The wee note above would be the only thing I'd be worried about and even then its only certain sectors of said cities

oh and if ya walk into a place like a drowned rat - first thing said is hello do ya want tay

second is do ya want me to dry that for ya - so you wont have a prob :D

Meelmore Lodge in the Mourne Mountains is a good place to base yourself for a couple of days to tour the Mournes and Strangford Lough area

Visit Donegal - It is a must! Follow the Atlantic Way routes and you will find some excellent beaches with no-one around. I have stayed in B&B's round Ireland and nearly all so far have offered to store my bike in a garage or covered area

If your looking for camping in the west of ireland (and it looks like your using hotels), I can't recommend this place enough.

Right beside a lovely beach and you can get an opentop wood burning stove from them and bring it down onto the beach. Heaven.

So many places, so little time....

One word of caution though, to see the best bits you'll have to ride minor roads & the pace, esp 2 up, will be slow. Plus there'll be lots of stops for photos & tea. So don't overestimate how far you'll get. If you try & do a full circuit in a week or ten days she'll prob never go away with you again :comfort

I remember many years ago myself and about 25 soaked bikers called into a b+b resturaunt type of place and the lady told us that we were too wet for her resturaunt so she brings us into her own private sitting room so that we could get our wet clothes off and dried and then go trough to the dining room. We had a lovely meal and our clothes were drier when it was time to go. As every one says just go and enjoy. JJH

He's right you know.

If your going up to donegal I would recommend staying in dunfanaghy for a night of two, you might even bump into the civil one. Avoid parking your bike in the big towns and cities as it may go for a ride without you.
