Evening all.
Does anyone know of a bike friendly hotel in Paris with parking. I looking for two nights accomadation in May,on route to the south of France to meet up with approx 300 fellow martians (the sweetie makers).

:D

Means you're really looking for a hotel with a indoor parking garage.... how much are you willing to dosh out ?? There's quite a lot. Do you want inside Paris itself, or on the outer ring ??

I know a hotel with the friendliest staff in a great location right next to Metro "Madeleine". It has very high standards but is only a 2* because it has no lift. Owners are v' friendly and it is a few mins walk from Champs de Elysees.

PM me if you want the details. It has not got its own parking BUT there is a bike park immediately opposite. Fine if you take your own chain etc. And the hotel is very reasonably priced also.

Stayed there last spring when the 3* I booked into turned out to be a s**thole. Was highly recommended by TI office and they weren't wrong.

I would describe it as the worlds smallest 2* 4* hotel ..............

The Hotel is called " La Sanguine" . I had a leaflet but cannot find it , i've just moved!! I think it is No. 6 Rue de Serene, Paris etc. Very close( 250 metres) to the Metro I mentioned and just 500 metres from Place de la Concorde.

The TI office close to the Arc de Triomphe would be able to send you details. I dont think the hotel has a website.

The bike park is basically a bay for approx 6 bikes across the street with large rails to chain your bike to.

Good luck.

This might sound like its stating the bleeding obvious, but be very wary of hotels that just offer what is effectively a car port. They may well keep the bikes dry, but unless they are secure car parks the local scum may well get to them.

Lat year - in Caen - approx 15 bikes were parked literally outside our hotel. The porter was meant to "keep an eye on them", but obviously want doing his job - Totally useless !! During the night some clowns tampered with most of the bikes, and although nothing was stolen one of the bikes had a piece of metal jammed into the ignition and snapped off. Ruined his whole day and cost him £100 odd to have it repaired on his return. The next night we managed to get underground parking and believe me it was worth paying the extra, just to be able to sleep at night.

In most cases, underground parking is free for motorbikes in France. The way to see that is look if there's a) a special entrance lane for motorcycle (narrow with a motorobike sign), or b) if the barrier is a half or 3/4 barrier, ie if you can get through it with your bike, then it's free. No joke !! You'll see that at the exit it's similar, and you can get out like that.

However, you are expected not to park your bike in a car space, but in the dead spaces.

Ian, thanks for the reply.

Mike, thanks for the parking tips.

Campanile near Gare du Nord and Science park. Right by metro station and has underground secure parking (no shite half barroer but nice slisding door.... so not free). Been there a couple of times. www.campanile.fr or [email protected]

Martians? Not the Mars Moto? I went to one in Austria about 1993 with a mate that worked until recently for what used to be called Mars Group Electronics (and then many other names!) at the Winnersh Triangle!

Mars Moto

When I went to Austria the sweety boys at Pedigree Petfoods has nice leathers the colour of a Pink/Mauve Whiskas can from the company... at Electronics we got f.a. As a late booker qualifying from one days contracting on the mainframes in Slough (!) I got to sleep on a mattress on the floor, but at least I didn't have to pay for the weekend!

The Cloggies had their bikes trucked to about a mile from the border with Hungary and rode to Sopron where the hotel was. The boos had a harley and his wife was like and advery from the HD catalogue, yes even the knickers that she showed if asked.....

The French rode over and were very sociable. When drunk they sung la Marseillaise at the slightest prompting....

The Austrians were great hosts. The bbq in a forest near the Hungarian border was attended by Austrian border guards for a non-alco drink, they gave us impromtu displays of dismantling and rebulding their automatic weapons..... much appreciated by a drunken audience!

Good weekend.. enjoy yourself!
