thought it was the fan belt slipping, but when I kill the ignition it sounds like the starters engaged... and you can hear it "whir" :tears poor thing

And the more I thin k about it it's the same sound you'd get if you hit the starter whilst the bike was running??

any ideas? anyone else seen this? other than a faulty starter swich, any other reason that this would happen?

Thanks
Mo

Either ... or ....

1. Alternator belt?

Pull the black plastic cover and check the adjustment. From memory, you should just be able to turn it through 90 degrees but no more, half way up the run. But check this. My memory aint what it used to be.:rob

2. Starter solenoid failing to disengage?

Pull the plastic cover over the starter. Disconnect the battery. Pull the starter. Check it on the bench using a spare battery?

Others will doubtless have better ideas ...

Take a look at yor "fan belt" first to make sure it isn't slipping.
Dead easy,remove 4 screws.
More likely to be the starter shaft getting gummed up with dirt and clutch droppings.Remove starter and see if you can slide the engagement gear along the shaft easily.Clean off all the gack (including underneath the gear) with a solvent and then try it for movement.I dont oil the shaft, just leave it dry as the oil attracts dirt.

I'd suspect a problem with the starter button on the bar or it's wiring. Investigate and clean the starter motor and switch first and see what's what. Try engaging the starter with it off the bike to see that it's doing what it should and engaging/disengaging properly

Mystery, went out to try and start the bike again, and check if it still made the noise..

Bugger now it wont start..

faulty kill switch?.. check, nah wont turn over if i set it to off, turns over when on run... spent ages feckin around cursing then realised no fuel pump noise...

TOOK the bike out of gear, and she fired up :blast:blast:blast

fault has miraculously gone, will check the fan belt tension, anyone seen this with water in the switch (starter)

Thanks for the pointers
