Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right spot, but here is my hurdle on Bike Insurance.

I want to jump ship and spend the next Winter in Southern Europe.

I cannot get a quote for more than 30 days continuous time in EU.
Has anyone managed this?

=====

I have moved this post and thread from ‘Travel insurance’ and hopefully given it a relevant title.

search for long stay travel insurance
I have used a sub-brand of https://www.voyagertravelinsurance.co.uk/travel-insurance/long-stay-travel-insurance/ for a normal annual policy (30 day trips) and these cover riding bikes. No idea if that applies to the extended stay policies
the difficulty is likely to be if you have medical conditions

Are you looking for:

A. Insurance for the vehicle? ie. Motor insurance

B. Travel insurance? ie. Insurance for your body / personal belongings

C. Both?

D. Something else entirely?

I can get myself insured for medical, theft, etc., but it's long term 90 days) continuous cover for the bike that is the issue.

Bemoto offer cover up 90 days iro EU (& some other countries)

WHAT IS COVERED
THIRD PARTY COVER
In keeping to EU directives your policy provides the minimum cover (third party only), while you or any other named rider are using your motorcycle, to meet the laws on compulsory insurance of motor vehicles in:

any country which is a member of the European Union; and

any country which the Commission of the European Communities is satisfied has made arrangements to meet Article 8 of EC Directive number 2009/103/EC on insuring civil liabilities arising from using a motor vehicle.
You can find more information on the countries that follow the above EU Directive by visiting www.cobx.org
90 (NINETY) DAY COVER EXTENSION
The insurer will also provide the cover shown on your Policy Schedule during the period of cover while you or any other named rider are using your motorcycle within the countries referred to above. This applies as long as the trip is temporary and does not last longer than 90 (ninety) days.

all bike policies give you 365 days insurance in the countries listed on your certificate but only at the legal minimum

some extend the full policy for a limited number of days as stated in the previous post, with Bemoto offering 90 days

I have recently renewed with Hastings who also offer 90 days FULL cover per trip. This suits most UK riders who are restricted by the Schengen rules.

"Full policy cover abroad
This policy also includes the cover described on your schedule of insurance and certificate of motor insurance for each trip up to 90 consecutive days, to use your motorcycle in ..."

That’s cleared that up.

I’ll move your opening post and onwards into the Motor sub-section.

I suspect Wessie’s post was due to him being under the (understandable) impression that you were seeking help on Travel insurance, that being the sub-section (and indeed thread topic) into which you’d posted your appeal for advice / help.

Thanks everyone.
In summary, I currently have:-
90 days comp cover per annum, but each trip is
limited to 30 days.
If I exceed those limits, I get covered to the minimum legally required in the country I visit. which is usually 3rd party.
It's a tricky one, but thanks for the info.

Its only me again; in the correct section now!
Thanks.

Then you have two choices:

1. Find a new insurer with more generous terms, cancelling your existing policy, either or both of which might come at a cost.

2. Stay with your existing insurer, but be careful not to damage or lose your bike.

Great minds think alike.
I am planning a second bike, and going multi bike policy; I'm getting a good quote, and am pressing for over 90 days, so it will be interesting to see what they say. I'm cautiously pessimistic.
I can get the same mileage allowance for each bike (some multi policies only give one mileage allowance for the Policy, not each bike), but the EU 90 days is for the Policy overall (split between the bikes).

I think BMW insurance (broker, forgot who the underwriter is) offer a fairly long EU stay.

policy document is issued by the Atlanta broker, Swinton. Also own Carole Nash
https://policywording.prod.cdlcloud.co.uk/Swinton_MC_PW0725_BMW-2025-07-24-10-21-59.pdf

It is vague and says to check your Schedule for details of the insurer.

I assume the underwriter will be someone from the regular panel used by Atlanta and T&Cs for overseas use will vary, depending on the underwriter.

Maybe you are remembering the olden days when Devitt arranged the BMW Motorrad insurance?

Found it. Atlanta, last year. One year.

I'm still insured via BMW this year, but didn't check if it's still the case.
