I’m heading off to Morocco for a month mid April and have been doing some research re bike insurance. To cut a long story short, it seems you can only get 3rd party cover for Morocco through anyone in the UK (or Alisse in NL). It’s a 3rd of the price at the border in Tangier. Anyone found any better options for fully comprehensive cover, or should I just go with the 3rd party cover at the port of entry?

I've been to Morocco five times and was only covered Third Party. (y)

I think you may find that you only get Third Party cover in Europe and that for only 30 days per annum - at least my policies do, Lexham, Swinton and Hastings Direct.

I was looking at my multi-bike policy from 2015 and it was the same cover as in the UK for as long as I liked.

Wapping is the expert and I hope he comes along. (y)

Thanks for that. I suspect it will
be 3rd party but thought it was worth checking here, as there will
be many like yourself, who’ve done this already 🙂

maybe read your documents again re. Europe. My Hastings policy gives me 90 days per trip at full comp cover in EU plus a few other countries.

just be sure you understand the difference between "third party insurance" and "the minimum to comply with the law in the country"

the latter does not cover what we know as 3rd party cover but is what you will buy at the border

speak to your broker to see if they can offer a Green Card extension to Morocco but make sure you know the level of cover offered. Not all brokers will offer this, especially if they are the sort that feature at the top of the comparison sites. They don't like variations to their commoditised products.

Pretty sure all my policies continued to be fully comp (including pillion cover) when crossing into Europe.
Be interested to hear more about other’s experiences re insurance in Morocco as it’s a nice easy option to tag on to Spanish rides.

You are quite correct.

I was looking at the certificate in the different languages where it gives assurance that I hold the "minimum necessary" for that country.

I get 90 days per annum not per trip.

Very useful reply- thank you.

Have you asked your current insurer to extend your cover to Morocco and give you a 'Green Card' to confirm?
