My bike insurance is up for renewal soon, I came clean about my new Power Commander only to find power commander is a dirty word in insurance circles - why??? I've not noticed much of a performance difference except the bike is smoother. Anyone would think I'm trying to insure a nitrous, turbo, jet propelled track bike by the way these insurance companies carry on! Not many will insure me!!!! Plus my upgraded, non standard 2.5 yr old GS with change of exhaust, air filter and PC is being quote £30 dearer to insure than a brand new std 2011 GS.

To insure 4 bikes has risen from £420 to £970 this year.

I'm not happy being ripped of by insurance companies!!!!!!

I stated every mod, and they quoted me a telephone no i just LOL and the deal i have now is that in the event of a claim they will only pay out for a replacement cost of the relevant stock item. and so my policy did not increase.

;)

Not sure they take the same view when a bike has increased in bhp. What gets me is you would think I've added NOS + a turbo by the amount the cost has risen. It's ridiculous.

It didn't make any difference to my premium when I told them I had fitted a PCV - it took then a day to get back to me after consulting their underwriters but no increase.

Two bikes: £235.00 - £40.00 up from last year for an SP30 ().

Mmmm

Yeah - insurance baddies are very good at taking the money yet very adept at not paying out for the daftest of reasons - there are millions of examples out there.

To give a flip side opinion, I have heard that Carol Nash is very good - don`t know myself as I am with ebike but I thought I`d share that.

I used to be with bennetts for years.....................

For the last 2 years I have been on a multi policy for my collective bikes. My current insurer reluctantly offered me a renewal only because I am a current customer - Equity Redstar - who now apparantly do not cover bikes worth more than £8000 - so no GS or Harley owners then!!!

The other competitor was cheaper than Equity but refused me when they found out I have a Power Commender on GS!!!

Did a Go Compare search yeasterday and 3 out my 4 bikes were coming up cheaper with The Policy Shop. But when I enquired they seem to get gittery when I confirmed I had a Power Commander despite the fact I entered that info into the relevant Go Compare boxes. Aparantly the Go Compare search results doesn't mean thats the price you will pay!!!! I am now waiting for a callback after The Policy Shop chats with their underwriters to see if they will honour the price and insurance offered on Go Compare. :blast

The negative thing with Multi Policies is that you only earn NCB on one vehicle so as I'm now shopping around for individual quotes 3 out of 4 bikes have 0 NCB.

O and apparantly there is a 40% insurance increase for all accross the board now because insurance companies are running at a loss due to the amount of claims they receive! My advice is clamp down on those claiming frauduently especially false whip lash claims!!

My Ducati Multistrada was insured with Equity Red Star at its purchase value of £14920, and my 2011 GSA is with them as well, at a similar value. I got my GSA last month so if they have an £8k value ceiling, that must be a very recent change.

I've just contacted Carole Nash - didn't realise they were a broker? Anyway the cheapest they quoted - with all mods declared - was £577 with guess who?? Equity Redstar. No quibble over mods whats-so-ever compared to Express Insurer who quoted the same but without the mods - cause they didn't record it when I declared it - compared to £977 with mods.

Man you have to shop around don't you!!!

Thanks for all your advise chaps!!

So you are probably not the best placed or informed person to pass any opinion or rant on the quality, business ethics or competitive pricing structures of insurance companies, I might suggest?

What did you think their job was? Butcher? Arms dealer? Proctologist?

Anyway, you will know for the future.

Another piece of advice that is regularly proffered on the pages of UKGSer and other consumer lead websites, resulting in (as you have discovered) a reasonable price. You will know next time, assuming you can remember.

Bloody hell, someone got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning:pullface

Not at all, full of the joys of summer and the impending weekend jaunt to la belle France with assorted Tossers.

But at least the message will get through, hopefully. Though one sometimes wonders.

If you have nothing positive to add Wapping why bother posting? Or are you just a grumpy old man? :D
