Bike insurance- who’s good or bad at moment?

IMG_3894.jpg
I am very very low risk , ticking all of the necessary boxes including trackers , locks, brick built garage , clean licence , low theft area, no history. Riding bikes 50 years. Never made a claim . Must have said something to upset this ‘Caring Company ‘

After a recommendation on here, I went with Principal Insurance for a multi-bike policy at my renewal last Nov.
Since then, when I've wanted to add / change a bike on that policy, I've never been able to get through to their customer service dept.
Pretty poor IMO. I'll be going elsewhere at renewal.

I gave up with Principal for the same reason.

Motorcycle Direct were usually very good....2 bikes each your used to cost me £280 for their Platinum cover with my beemer as the main bike. That's gone up considerably this year, partly due to value of Ducati (which for some bizarre reason they have as group 23) and partly due to the Hayabusa (group 16 I think) which I paid £100 extra for to carry insurance through to renewal. My insurance is due to renew in 6 weeks to we'll see what they quote me for 26/27.

Avoid Cornmarket - expensive and unhelpful. The discount being IAM is negative. Bikesure seem to be competitive and comprehensive. Best advice is to shop around - however boring the process is. There is usually a couple of hundred pounds saving between top and bottom

Just bought a K1600b new tried to get a quote from bmw insurance no quote

I look at the underwriter rather than the broker.
Markerstudy are on the do not touch list.
Ageas & Aviva are preferred. Neither sell bike insurance direct so you have to go via a broker

If a broker is shit you can always go direct to the underwriter. You really do not want to be covered through a Markerstudy broker (C Nash, Swinton et al) and have a policy underwritten by them as well.

https://www.markerstudygroup.com/who-we-are/our-brands/ - scroll down to see the 40+ brands they own
Honda insurance uses maketstudy now

quite possibly as the underwriter

"Honda Motor Europe Limited is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Adrian Flux Insurance Services Group. Honda Motorcycle Insurance Services is a trading name of Adrian Flux Insurance Services Group, which is Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under firm reference number 307071"

Adrian Flux is the independent broker and parent of Bikesure. They might very well sell you a policy underwritten by a Markerstudy subsidiary such as Zenith with Honda branding. You would hope A Flux handles everything efficiently and there would be no need to seek any contact with the underwriter. Personally, I would ask A Flux to seek a policy from a better underwriter through their full brokerage channels.

Just renewed mine with motorcycle direct multibike policy again (Hayabusa plus Ducati). All options checked including UK/EU breakdown cover, legal expenses, leathers and helmet cover. £380 fully comp both bikes. I tried Bikesure but what they initially quote is just a mirage...once you commit, they start ringing up "extras" and increasing the quote. I think they initially quoted me £240 but that soon started climbing once all details were gone into (avoid for this reason). I'll be sticking with motorcycle direct. Easy to follow and very comprehensive members area on website where all your policy/certificate and correspondence details can be found.

Unless things at Bikesure have changed since Feb this year, my quote was a reduction from last year and they have been very good for the last 3 years. No extra costs for any of the accessories I have added, such as Akra, Ohlins etc. Tried most of the usual suspects in Feb and Bikesure were the most competitive. Insurance is truly a lottery. But I don't have a multi bike policy, my airhead is insured through Peter James and the VMCC scheme. Will give motorcycle direct a go next Feb, when the dance starts again.

Edit, just had a look at Motorcycle Direct Trust Pilot reviews, now I know all companies get bad reviews, but they have 9% bad reviews.

Ive stuck with Bennetts for the past few years. There or thereabouts on price, I usually get through to their service desk in a few minutes where I find the staff very helpful, knowledgeable and with a little encouragement flexible too. On line account and policy management plus subscription to “bike social” for some decent discounts, although mostly for stuff I don’t want.

When I claimed for a single vehicle accident (I slid off on oil) they were fine, let me take it to the Moto Guzzi dealer rather than foursquare or whatever they are called, and paid out pronto to the dealer as far as I know.

how many of those reviews relate to claims handling? Most seem to be about purchase.

most brokers are set up to take your money but claims are a different matter, often outsourced to the lowest of low bottom feeders.

the worst thing about MCD is that it was set-up by Arron Banks. Although, he has not been involved for some time it seems, but still would not be my first choice due to that taint.

Yes, it's all about how a broker or underwriter handles the claims. But it is also about if you can get in touch with them if you need to make a change to the policy or have a question.

Never had an issue with them and I'd say 9% is a totally average score as some will leave bad review simply because they don't get the price they want. I've been more than happy with their service. Bikesure annoyed me....kept calling even after I said I didn't want their quote because they admitted it was likely to go up due to a few changes and wouldn't accept my akras were factory standard optional fitment. They also wanted to increase it for my modest mileage and charged extra for some of the things I got standard wit my MD platinum policy. Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

There you go. Different strokes for different folks 😎
