BIKE LIFT/MOVER

Go to Nippy Normans and look at the Wunderlich bike mover ... not sure thats the official name, trolly thing !!! About £120 .. I don't have one but I understand they are very robust and do a good job. Hope this helps.

Apologies if this is a stupid question. But the GS and the gsa have centre stand. So what is the need for an expensive stand like the Abba skylift?

dinku as per my opener for this thread. To move the bike sideways into a tight garage space....cant be done on the centre stand.

You need a Clarke's MCD1 Motorcycle Dolly. It's currently £84 from Machine Mart. And that'll be less 20% when they do one of their frequent promotions.
The whole bike rolls onto the dolly and there's also a piece with castors, on which to put your side stand. Once on, the bike'll move easily in all directions. The only requirement is a reasonably smooth garage floor. When you're not using it you can flip it on its side and lean it against a garage wall. Takes up hardly any space. Wouldn't/couldn't be without mine.

What he says above ^^^^

Got my CCM on one of these and it's a doddle to shift it about. No you can't use the centre stand on a GS with it but is that an issue? :nenau

Depends how much space you have I guess.

The Clarke stores the bike on the side stand, so even when it's up against the garage wall the bike still leans a lot, taking up more space.

Constands keeps it upright, giving me more space. Less fiddling than pushing g the bike onto that ramp as well. Like I say, depends how much space you have to work with.

I really need my bike upright as space is tight so Constands wins for me, going to order one.

Thanks all for your input

Bike mover

The Clarke bike mover has a deeply dished section in which to place the sidestand. To get rid of most of the lean on mine I've cut a piece of wood to fit into the "dish" and now my bank stands almost upright. I tend to move the bike on the dolly without the wood then once in position pop the wood under the stand. With a piece of wood you can tailor the thickness to suit your bike. Works well for me!

Clever. Good suggestion

I have one of the mover trolleys from nippys. Works great, I just push the bike on to two pieces of 25mm ply. This lifts the bike up enough so when you put the mover under the center stand the angles are correct for stand to lift the bike, as it would normally.
Just make sure the brakes are on the castor wheels. Once the bike is on its easy to move around, if your worried about the front wheel dragging around, a little pressure on the passenger seat lifts the front wheel enough.
I have the smaller trolley and its more than strong enough for my GSA.
Hope this all makes sense.

Roll bike onto dolly, spin it around and bike will lean towards the wall taking less useful space.

Sent somehow.

Constands look good, that's what I'm ordering.

1jac dont do a adapter kit for the lc GS

Bursig probably top of the range, but they ain't cheap!

Duraace I wondered if you had the Constands lift yet and what you think of it.
Picture would be appreciated
Cheers

I've just bought the abba stand.. Really nice stand and very well made.

Not tried it on the bike yet but when I do I'll add some pictures.

Don't know if you have pulled the trigger on your order yet Woody but here's my 2p's worth.

I have both the dolly type and the side stand one.

The first one I bought was the dolly one. I had a k1600 at the time and needed to turn it round in the end of my garage. It worked well and I could swivel my bike 180 degrees to face the other way and also push it into a corner. This is the one I use now with the GS.

I bought a second bike (Honda PC800) and needed another mover so I decided to try the side stand type. The castors were half the size of my other mover, something I didn’t notice when I ordered it, and it was difficult to move with the Honda on it (240 kg's) If I put the k1600 (340kg's) on it, it was impossible to budge.

My garage floor is flat but not billiard table smooth, more like a medium sandpaper surface. I learned that the only way to move the side stand one is by pushing/pulling very near the bottom of the bike, sometimes I hook an old tow rope I have onto the mover and pull it, once the castors are all facing in the right direction I can then push it to where I want it. To get the bike on it I just lower the ramps at each end wedge it into a corner so it does not slide forward and ride the Honda onto it.
I would not buy this type again.

I get the GS onto it's mover the same way as Dirt-Flirt by putting a small ramp / board in front of the back wheel then rolling it up. If you don't raise the rear wheel it is very very difficult to get the bike onto it's center stand.

It's a bit of a faff using either but the center stand one is by far the easiest to move around because of the larger castors, it's also easier to clean and maintain the bike and I can remove either wheel if I want to, something I can't do with the side stand mover.

If you do go for the center stand one make sure it has the double castors (available on ebay direct from Germany at half the Wunderlich price) and take the advertised max loading of any of them with a generous pinch of salt. (I speak from experience here).

On order but no bike yet to try it on.

Mate of mine has the ABBA Skylift. Brilliant piece of kit for working on the bike but overkill for storage IMHO.

It's a big bit of kit and it needs connecting at both sides of the bike so takes longer to use. Couldn't be arsed with it on a daily basis.

Appreciate the heads up.

Not ordered yet but think the Constands is favourite as it makes removal of both wheels at the same time possible and will allow me to move the bike into a tight spot in the garage. I think the Abba sky lift will be a bit OTT for what I want.
