Hi Folks, does anybody know where I could get an MOT on a Sunday between Salisbury and Plymouth, booked on the ferry and just realised MOT is due, bugger. Very grateful for any help.

Check the vosa web site I think it tells you your nearest mot stations and opening times. Good luck

I rather think you do need it, the vehicle needs to be legal in its home country and the insurer might have a get out of jail
Jail card if the bike is involved in an accident.

Some insurance policies specifically state the insured vehicle must have an MOT for the insurance to be valid.

Seems ludicrous to me, but that is what they say.

I don't think I am

Whilst abroad your vehicle must be compliant with the rules and regulations of the country in which it is registered. This means that you cannot allow your tax and MOT to expire.

But i'm prepared to bare my arse in sainsbury's if you can prove me wrong.

ALSO

Consequences of driving without an MOT

Driving without a valid MOT certificate is an offence under Section 47 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, and, although conviction for this offence will not result in penalty points being placed on a driving licence, it carries a maximum fine of £1000. What's more, driving without a valid MOT certificate automatically invalidates the insurance policy and should a driver be involved in an accident, they themselves would have to foot the bill for the damages.

Just Google it and all will be revealed..

Minimum four page thread this one
Paging Wapping
However not having a valid mot does not mean that your machine is not insured Otherwise how would you get to the mot place in the first instance
So just book an mot for the day you get back to blighty at the nearest place to home
Job's a fish ;)

Fuggem, live dangerously for a change i say.

book an mot at your return address on the day you get back..job done officer.

disclaimers apply - see my terms and conditions ..........:bounce1

Not correct if you going to an MOT station for a pre booked MOT test or a VOSA depot for a VIC in case of a CAT C vehicle
More effort required sir :rob
:D

So, you reckon France, Germany etc, have specific regulations making it an offence for a UK vehicle to be used without a current MoT? :P

Think about it - no German registered bike would be reported here for an out of date TuV (or whatever they have). The MoT only becomes an issue when on UK soil. There is NO requirement for a VEL - only required when using a UK registered vehicle on a public road (happy for you to Google that yourself for the fine print)... :D

The only docs you need are

Valid full (not provisional) driving licence
Driving licence paper counterpart - if you have a photocard licence
An International Driving Permit (when necessary)
Vehicle registration document (V5c) - the original not a copy
Motor insurance certificate
Passport(s). :thumb

What branch of sainsburys where the arse was to be shown was it for the record Eh dick :D

Thanks for the replies, think I agree with Bisbee and will book an MOT for my return.

You can prove it's booked in, your arse is covered and all these naysaying fairy arsed twats who wouldn't say boo to a goose on a Sunday because they heard it was illegal to do so in Yorkshire can shove it right up their clenched sphincters :thumb2

What are we coming to :blast
