Bike nicked - keep an eye out please.(Embra)

Sorry to hear of the theft and glad it was recovered.
Sorrier and utterly cringeworthy to read about the estimations and expectations of where it might be found though.
I can assure you all that the streets of Niddrie or Craigmillar or anywhere else i recall in Scotland's fine Capital are not strewn with broken bottles or used syringes, and that the majority of folks who reside in such places do their best. There is a real world out there guys. Go seek and ye shall find.
Terribly inaccurate assumptions made here. Tut tut.

Not quite fair I think. There's a reality check here: a lot of bikes are nicked and end up in these areas of the capital. Your point about the honesty of the majority of folk who live in Niddrie etc is well made and was echoed by me in an earlier post. Unfortunately, these folk are the first victims of the criminals among them.

I agree with you entirely about the fairness - the fairness about stereotyping from some who posted about your unfortunate incident.
Trust me i am fairly au fait with such matters and would (re)assure you that the local folk aren't the first victims of crime.
Im not a crusader of the people but i do resent reading generalisations which are fundamentally flawed from the outset, especially when i do know things to be different.
Anyone reading about the theft you experienced would rightfully be angry - i too have been there - but my own anger was exacerbated by ill thought remarks.
Stolen motor vehicles can equally be recovered in other places of our country and capital city.
Sorry again to read of your being a victim.

Jesus..... hows that in english?

Most of us are relatively intellegent, just because you have 'local' knowledge of 'that patch' it's like tom thumb, with his finger stuck in 'his local' dyke that's his home (sic) so its ok as its what he is used to.
Whats wrong with a couple of neighbour hoods being mentioned.

BTW as you can see i live in P'boro, whatever that means. It's a forgettable experience to most visitors, as it is with MOST towns - we see the degradation before the 'better stuff'.
It's my home, and I chose to live here, whatever visitors think of the place.....
I don't give a stuff what people think of where i live, just as when I go to the ruins of Barnsley (today) or felixstowe/ wisbekistan/ milton keynes, ext, most of these places look like shite, that I wouldnt want to live in, however it's home to many.
Thats where we are, so why get 'angry' or take offence about someones view. - or is it because the views are expressed by those south of the haloed border?
:nenau

You're right enough, most stolen bikes end up in that neck of the woods and have done so for years. There are of course other hot spots in Edinburgh where bikes are stolen and recovered.

The wee shites in Niddrie / Crazymillar use the local streets as a race track. The only good point is that some have been injured when they crash stolen bikes whilst riding like wee twats.

Further update: it's a write off. As Bob (Voyager) says above, it's a crying shame not least because he just rebuilt the gearbox for me and I installed a new clutch. I may exercise my option to buy back so if anyone is looking for bits for an 11RT or RS of that era (1998) then get in touch. It may influence my decision.

Looking at the list of damaged items I would definitely buy it back and repair it (but then I am sentimental about my bikes).

The motor and running gear are intact and you know all the history.

It also has an excellent stainless Sat Nav mount :augie.

:D

Bob.

Indeed it does Bob. I'll be wheeking that off whatever happens. I too tend to be sentimental about my bikes and I'm swithering about this one. It could certainly be returned to the road but I'm not sure that I have the stamina for that after all the work I put in over the winter. However, space in the lock up is a consideration. For someone who has the space though, the bike would be a very useful source of spares, especially that gearbox. A bit of effort could see it back on the road also.

Once I have a clear idea re the insurance settlement, I'll post again. If I can minimise my losses AND pass on a good bike at a good price to another enthusiast then I will do so.

The insurance co have made me an offer and I will need to tell them re buyback by middle of next week, I suppose. If anyone is interested in a very good RT for a decent price, send me a PM.
