Any clues? just replaced clutch and box on 1100gs, all back together but won't start, its turning over ok, got spark, fuel present at injectors but not very squirty, more dribbly? was running ok before started work but it had been stood a couple of months. Any ideas???

pump ok, had new filter, all pipework in the right place. good pressure to/from filter but expected a bit more of a squirt from the injectors, got about 2 gal of fuel in, going to try putting more fuel in but as pump is priming ok i don't think this is the prob.

Make sure your throttle cables are seated correctly!!!!

If they are get a car battery and take off the starter cover and put the postive clamp of a set of jump leads on the top connection on the starter and the earth on the exhaust clamp

That will reduce the current being drawn by the starter form the bike and lets it spin faster and also leave more energy for the ignition

Careful with the jump leads tho in case you get them in wrong place or stand on them and they land on each other etc etc etc Not to mention all them spraying injectors!!!!

had jump on battery as this was low, but will try direct to starter next. how much pressure should there be at the injectors? ie how far on the across the shed-ometer?

It could be the fuel has 'gone off'. Unleaded fuel can thicken and lose a bit of its 'bang' if left for a while. Try cleaning the injectors out and put some fresh fuel in.

Try either heating the plugs or better still changing them, Modern fuels kill plugs especially if you're one of the folks who run thier bikes for 5 minutes, to jkeep things charged. better to get a trickle charger and keep that battery topped that way or else just disconnect it till you're next going to use it 6 weeks will usually drain a good battery and 2 weeks for a not soo good one

Also drain the tank and see if you have anything else apart from fuel in there

Sometimes the drain hole bungs up and water seeps past the tank seal and into the tank!

AS far as it goes the injectors should just give a wee squirt it's firing fuel into a jetstream and that carries it into the cylinder not the fuel pressure

Steptoe had something recently about clamping the return line lightly (which is the lower pipe at the tank) and that was lightly clamp if you go too hard then you could end up blowing a pipe off somewhere

tank was drained as a matter of course, no water in there as i keep an eye on the tank breather and filler drain pipe, going to give the injectors a clean and put some new fuel in, not much else it could be really....

...well, new fuel, good strong spark, injectors off, on bench, ran 12v through, blasted through with carb cleaner, good positive click open/close, all back on...no go....small squirt of easy start and it fires as long as easy start lasts..??
wondering if it might be worth getting fault reader, any best buys for these? not used one before, will a universal one fit the bike, if so where do it go?
turning into a right good brain teaser..

You say you have recently replaced the fuel filter, is it possible that one of the rubber pipes inside the tank has split?
Stewart

hi stewart, filter is external, all pipes good, fuel into and out of filter when pump primes..

Have you tried Jaythros suggestion of lightly clamping the return line to see whether the fuel pressure regulator is alright ?
Stewart

Are you sure you've got the flexible pipes to the fuel distributor/regulator the right way round?.Try swapping them over and see if it makes a difference.
The system runs at about 40PSI so you should get a good squirt.

don't think i have, as fuel filter is fitted externally the pipework would only fit the way it came off, will double check though..

Well... I don't know what was in the first cup of tea of the day but it made it bloody obvious that I did need to do a bit of re plumbing on the old petrol pipes!!
once I had pulled myself through with a burning dufflecoat I finaly got it sorted. Now running again with a very nice clutch and a damn fine gearbox too.
Thanks to all for the prods in the right direction....blue skies are restored........
