Prior to taking my pride and joy for a service I found that it was very well balanced. I could take my hands off the bars and it would happily coast along in a straight line.
Since the service I've noticed more rider input required to keep it going straight. I tried taking my hands off the bars and found that it abruptly swerves to the right.
I am well anoyed as it does not feel right, especially as I spent over 250 quid.
Can someone give me some ideas as to what may have caused this. By the way I had a new front tyre fitted.

May I suggest filling your left pannier with weights , possibly bags of flour or sugar, although using sugar at this time of year may attract wasps. Hire a private track, to lessen the danger factor, and varying the weights until you achieve equalibrium. Another idea might be to install a gyroscope. The problem with both these solutions might be a severe reduction in luggage carrying capacity
Alternatively..... you could return to the dealer and get it fixed.

Pulling to the right.

Forget the track day thats a silly suggestion. Try twisted forks for starters, maybe your bike was dropped on road test (not unheard of) or possibly fell over (off) the ramp (also not unheard of). Sorry to sound severe but if it was ok before then it should be ok after. Complain like buggery to the dealer, (be nice though) and make sure he realises your not a happy bunny, BMW might want to hear from you too.

Take off the panniers, throw the weights Mick and have a good look around your bike for any tell tale signs of polishing scuffs, scratches etc. Look at the wheels for visual alignment.

Hope this helps, I understand your feelings here its not nice to feel let down.

New tyre?

Have a look at the arrow on the tyre:
Does it go the wrong way?

There is a little edge on the tyre close to the rim, it shall be parallel: Is it?

Try a new tyre; this one can be defect from the factory.

Are the rim OK?

Put your bike on the center stand, get help to push it down on the rear end so the front wheel gets off the ground, make the wheel spin: Does it spin OK?

Did they forget to put some part back on your bike when they montened (montend?) the wheel?

I'm not an expert, and my English is not perfect either. But I wanna try to help!:(

:) Liv.

This happened to me : I took it back and made them test ride it while I was there.
Result: they replaced the defective new front tire (Metzeler) with another new Metzeler and problem gone!:)

Take it back to dealer, sounds like the right hand brake caliper is binding.

Eh?

The brake may be binding, but the force acts through the same point of the tyre that the left front brake acts through!

Come on then Jon451

Well we're waiting to find out what the problem was with your freshly serviced and now pulling one way bike.

I've chewed me finger nails down to the quick with anticipation as to what the cause might be.

Mine did the same...then it was suggested that I put my shopping in the top box rather than hang the carrier bag of the handle bar.

Simple solution but it really worked

And to pad this thread out a little further...

Question:

With my shoping hanging on the left side of the bar did:

A. The weight cause my bike to turn left

or

B. Did the wind resistance pull back on the left bar creating the same effect as putting some counter steer in on the right which cause the bike to turn right

My 1150 also suffered from a similar problem after having a new Tourance fitted to the front. When turning left the bike felt very strange, it felt as if the front wheel was about to give way. Turning right was OK and the bike would track in a straight line with no problems. I deflated and then re-inflated the tyre which helped a lot but it still feels a little bit odd. I’m putting it down to a dodgy tyre but would be interested to hear the verdict on your bike.

Go to the ADVrider site and do a search for PTTR (Pulls To The Right) - this is an area of considerable discussion over there (although I don't think this particular example fits the profile they're talking about...)

Mike:)
