Bike 10 days old and broke down after 230 miles. Warning on dash and won’t rev, like limp mode.rang bmw recovery who recovered bike to nearest dealer, not one I bought it from.
Bmw assistance day they have to look at fixing it in 48hours. But dealer says they are too busy and it will be at least 2 weeks before they can look at it. So what’s the policy for this?

This is the fault it gave

I just read the warranty and couldn’t see any mention of 48 hour fix, unless I missed it. It did say if it can’t be fixed within 24 hours you get a loaner. If you’ve got their demo bike that might focus their minds a bit.

Chances are it’s something simple, software related etc. That error has appeared for anything from sticking exhaust servo to flat battery.

Courtesy motorcycle or they can supply a car I think. You would keep this the entire time the bike is off the road.

They initially sent a local garage out, when they arrived they were surprised it was a bike, thought it was a car. Anyway plugged her little gizmo into the obc and it threw up throttle position sensor.
It was bmw assist that said it had to be looked at within 48 hours.
I don’t have a loan bike as it was recovered by a courier from my house .

How far away is the selling dealer? Have you spoken to them? They might collect it and fix it. Yes you have the BMW warranty to get it repaired at any dealer but the selling dealer ultimately has responsibility for the bike under consumer protection law.

Get them to deliver you a courtesy vehicle, even if you don’t need it, concentrates the mind on getting it fixed quick

This happened to me this morning post a night shift on my 2018 r1200gsa. Phoned bmw assist, who asked which garage I wanted the bike taken to, (I bought from north oxford, at the time was closer to battersea, but I won’t divert from chandlers Brighton) 3 hr wait for poxy bike sos, to be fair he said he’d been given the wrong location, on arrival at chandlers, within 20 mins bike was hooked up too some pc magic which said left throttle body and gubbing a had frozen open. Quick check, parts arriving tomorrow, fingers crossed everything passes etc and I’ll be home tomorrow for tea, medals and tiffin with Helga tucked up in the garage, in the mean time I’ve been given a loan bike no questions or quibbles for as long as chandlers have my bike, those guys and gurls really do give 120%

No mention of time frames etc, just have this bike (it’s a 310, with a fuel tank the size of my tighs) until we phone you.

Although they did start speaking about an upgrade to a 1250 (who on the route home I’ve name as Herman, is that a sign)

Bmw should provide a loan vehicle, or at least they always did. Years ago they lent me a 5 series for a week when one of my bikes was off the road.

I was offered a loan bike by the assistance but said I don’t
Need one, because I don’t. MaYbe should
Have taken it anyway.

If it were me

I wpould be on the phone to the selling dealer politely pointing out that i had just spent quite alot of money and wanted to use the product i had bought and expecting me to wait at least 2 weeks for it to be even looked at was unacceptable so they can either get it from where it is and fix it quick or give me my money back

Yes however I bought it from cooper
Sunderland and they’ve recovered it to Lloyd Carlisle.

Tell them to pick it up then. Or speak to BMW and tell them the bike isn’t fit for purpose and you want it replaced. 10 days old, this is unacceptable.

Bloody hell you are being way to nice about this, get on the phone and star making some noise, no one is going to do anything about this otherwise. Start with the dealer you bought it from and then BMW.

It's kinda related, but whilst my 1250 was in for warranty replacement of the weeping front calipers (first pair failed with same issue so I went thru the same warranty issue twice), I did manage to get a small amount of compensation that virtually paid for a service.

That doesn't add the shine back to the feeling you should have right now in spanking a brand new bike post-COVID, but it might be worth asking as you'll going to be wanting to get it serviced some time soon ..

Persevere .. it's a fabulous bike.

Good luck.

Reject bike in writing. Be nice but firm insisting on full refund plus associated costs. That hopefully will get their attention.

Would not have thought that Lloyds would be that busy bearing in mind their hourly rate , which was double that of another local dealer when I last enquired

Well they’ve just rang and said I’ve nicked a wire whilst cable tying my quad lock wireless charger cable to the other cables right of The screen ????
So that will be an hours labour to fix at £75 plus vat please.
I find that hard to take but maybe I have caught a wire whilst cutting off a cable tie or something.

Owner induced fault

Not a warranty issue, so chargeable

We all make mistakes
