Bike recovered by bmw / dealer too busy

Yes I suppose it could
Be that. I knew I’d nicked a cable
But thought
I’d only nicked the black sleeve, plus I thought it was the cable going to the satnav .
Maybe not, on the bright side it’s not the bike that’s failed which is good .

Well they’ve just rang and said I’ve nicked a wire whilst cable tying my quad lock wireless charger cable to the other cables right of The screen ????
So that will be an hours labour to fix at £75 plus vat please.
I find that hard to take but maybe I have caught a wire whilst cutting off a cable tie or something.

So they’re working on it now then? :nenau

Yes be ready tonight or tomorrow morning. They said bmw recovery would
Deliver the bike back but I’m going to go and collect it tomorrow as the weather is supposed to be good

If it was recovered by BMW assist they owe you loan bike, or more often a car - that why it's always best to call them, rather than book it in at the garage, for a fault.

(unless the policy has changed - I've had loan cars when my GS was in, and I'm entitled to one if my car breaks down now)

They initially sent a local garage out, when they arrived they were surprised it was a bike, thought it was a car. Anyway plugged her little gizmo into the obc and it threw up throttle position sensor.
It was bmw assist that said it had to be looked at within 48 hours.
I don’t have a loan bike as it was recovered by a courier from my house .

I'm not convinced that is the issue tbh,

Nicking a wire is just that, in a stranded cable as long as one strand is intact, the signal will still flow

To create a problem, you either have to have gone right through the wire, or shorted it to ground , or another wire,

In which case you have nicked two wires, or shorted to ground

If it dosent happen again, all's well.

If it does, i'd be looking for a refund of the £75+vat

I had the same problem in Germany last September, I rode to the nearest dealer who was near Heidelberg, they asked what the problem was, wheeled it in and back out too quickly for me to get a complimentary coffee.

He told me it was a known issue that would be fixed with the next firmware upgrade, scheduled for November. It did it again sometime later and stalled so BMW assist collected it, took it to and from Dick Lovett Bristol who fixed it. No problem since, however the SOS system is now playing up and Bahnstormer want it for a day to sort it.

If it’s a CAN wire then shielding is critical as the bus is highly susceptible to noise, so even a nick can reduce noise suppression enough to take that part of the bus down.

Totally agree- canbus used at work and a nightmare if the cable or shielding is damaged....

Well they’ve photographed the wire so I’ll post it up tomorrow once I’ve been and collected the bike.

Reject bike in writing. Be nice but firm insisting on full refund plus associated costs. That hopefully will get their attention.
Bloody hell! Talk about over reaction. Meanwhile, later the same day, fault found and bike fixed. It’s to be hoped the rejection in writing letter gets lost in the post;)

The OP must be bloody unlucky, there is only one CAN pair in the Kombi branch, which will be a twisted pair,

They dont shield the wires, other than twisted pair, and building the rest of the bundle around them.

We'll know if it's the can pair when he posts the picture

Unlucky for sure but the wire near the dash made me think it was a possibility given it’s a module on the CAN. Not sure if any other modules are wired through the dash area on a 1250 given that they will nearly all be on a separate private bus.

The Gs uses sws by the way.

it would be interesting to note what code the computer threw up (if the workshop is willing to share that with you)

Mine had the same issue, Assistance were very poor but have since apologised, bike had an update and has been good for 500 + miles , slowly falling back in love with it

Mine showed the same error message the weekend before last. It’d shown it before a couple of thousand miles earlier, but no fault was found at Allan Jefferies, so they just updated the software.

This time AJ’s couldn’t fit it in for a month, so it’s going back to Williams where I bought it from next week for a 6500 mile service and diagnosis - probably another software update.
