Hi,

Stuck in Burgos ((S)pain) with a semi dead bike. It runs for 10 seconds, then it stops. All electronics are fine, and there is no underpressure in the tank.

Any idea?

Glad that I have BMW service on the beast...

Does it run longer with the petrol cap open?

No it's the same. The fuel pump pressures up when I switch it on. Also if I switch it off then on, then I can start it again, and it runs for another 10 seconds.

Could be the fuel pump/cambus - I had 700km in pissing rain through france yesterday.

Look where the fuel pump controller is - I had a twisted gasket which meant the void beneath the FPC filled with water and shorted it out. This was a 1200 where the FPC sits in top of the pump housing>

First thing I checked, bone dry.

I'm suspecting bad fuel, as it started just after I filled it up last time. It then ran for ~20km where after it died, then another 8km, and now 15m.

It'll get picked up tomorrow, then to the dealer... I'm on my way to Morocco, don't think that will happen, depends on what the problem is.

Thanks.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Hopefully it'll be a simple fix.

Could be water in the fuel lines, assuming it managed to get past the fuel tank filler seal in heavy rain. Is there any way to purge the fuel lines and then reconnect, eg disconnect at the injector end ??

I found a long tread on advrider with more or less the same issue. It turned out to be the fuelpump.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'll let BMW deal with it tomorrow.

So I got the bike transported to BMW in Burgos this morning. And the first thing I was told was that their mechanic was on vacation until Thursday. They have one, and only one bike mechanic...., well that is good to know...

All in all I'm always lucky in Spain:blagblah, and the problem seams to be the fuel pump, it runs "fine" at high revs +5000, the second it gets below ~4000 it dies.

Due to all my trave insurances, BMW only took 2 hours to decide to transport the bike home, and give me a rental, which I have to change just across the french border as it's too expensive to drive the car all the way to The Netherlands :barf, so now I'm in an Ibis for 2 days waiting for 2nd of May as France (also Spain) is closed on the 1th of May.... I might make it home before xmas...

Shame about not being able to continue on the bike.

:(

So got the bike back last week. It was actually delivered to the dealer on the 18th, but no mechanic around due to bank holidays.

When they got it off the truck it still had the 10 second issue, but when they started working on it tuesday problem was gone. But the fuel pump had a squeaking sound to it (humm), and they decided to change it.

So bike back, me happy'ier...
