I have just fitted what I feel is a great line of additional security to my 1250.
Basically you send your centre stand to Mark at Cymarc and he welds a lug onto it, (the stand is then stripped back to bare metal before being powder coated) Once the stand is on the bike and the stand is lowered you fit a padlock through the lug which then prevents the stand from being lifted making the bike that bit more difficult to steal.

What happens if you jump on the seat and push the bike forward, as if pushing off the stand. Is the metal work up to the job or will something break allowing the bike to be wheeled away? We’ve all seen how easy steering locks are to defeat.

I’ve been looking at this, I think it’s a great idea.
Adds another substantial layer of security for the space of a small padlock.
Get the bonus of a decent finish on the mainstand too.

Yeah, what if the scrotes have built a 2 megaton high yield nuclear weapon, with 8 independently programmed ultra H4 new fission warheads, with reactive armour defeating penetrating heads, and detonate it 6 inches from it ?

Fucking ridiculous.

It’s a well thought out bit of kit, a great layer of security, hard to get at, and minimal kit to carry.

What a great idea.

And neat too. 👍🏽

It’s really poor show that BMW (and frankly every other manufacturer) doesn’t make this a standard feature on every bike with a centre stand. Actually, side stands too.

It would certainly prevent the “two scrotes and a scooter” push-away thefts which I understand to be the most common issue. They’d need two more fairly well-built mates, two lengths of scaffolding pole and a van.

Good bit of kit and a great idea. @Brian O will you use some sort of 'tell tale' on your bars to remind you ?(like the plastic leash some disclocks have)

I thought that. I dont use a disk leash , I have a small R clip on a very length of shock cord from my brake reservoir. I put the R clip into my ignition lock. So as soon as you go to unlock the bike you see the R clip and remove the disk ( which I have on the rear wheel , where its harder to access) 👍👍

TMax has had a locking centre stand for a few years, doesn't stop anyone just picking the bike up and throwing in a van. That happened to a colleague who was at a lunchtime meeting at a Southampton Hotel, scrotes drove up and just lifted his new GS into a van and drove off.

I suspect that's why he said that it'd stop 2 scrotes on a scooter but not 4 blokes and a van. I've seen countless video clips of kids nicking bikes via the push along a scooter method, can't recall seeing one of a group of fellas, a van and two scaff bars.

The general consensus that a decently penetrated weld, with half decent filler material can hold around 1 tonne of weight.

Well that got big quick! :ROFLMAO:

It's listed as 1250 but is this applicable to any LC 1200 / 1250?

It's a great mod to stop opptunistic theft by bike mounted tea leaves, which is a large portion of the theft we see these days.

An alarmed padlock would be even better.

It was a question not a criticism. Whilst you may not want to damage your bike trying, the scripts will not hesitate to give it ago. They don’t care about any damage.

Like any security as a layer it looks like a good idea and one manufacturers could easily adopt.

Well unless my colleague was telling porkies that what happened. And after that incident, he def didn't have a bike to ride until the insurance paid out.

I should have multiqupted......You quoted SBD. I quoted you quoting SBD. Don't doubt your mate had his bike stolen in that manner but most are 'opportunist' shitbags rding past the usual parking spots for bikes on their nicked scooter/sur-ron

Done this mod myself on my 2012 twin cam and use a decent disc lock to go through the hole. Light lock on the front and Allmax chain on the rear, bit of a faf when touring but their again trying to sort out a stolen bike in God knows where would be a bigger faf.
