Hi guys I am looking at buying a secondhand gs1200 not very new one, which year (not to old) is the best to go for. If it does not have abs is that a big miss, my last old bike did not have much in the way of gizmos mind you I dont dream about the good old days I just remember the good old breakdowns Regards fishy23

The original one came out in 2004, then had a slight update in 2006, is this the sort of age you're looking at? there has been a little issue with the fuel pump controller :augie and the final drive seals but these will have been sorted by now and if not there are 2 things to look for. If it's the FPC it won't run and if it's the seal there will be oil all over the back of the bike;)

The only gizmo which is a must for most buyers are heated grips but I think you'll find 99% will have them anyway. The for sale and wanted section is a great place to start and worth the £12 subscription for that alone:thumb2

Happy hunting.

From 2008 onwards, Servo brakes were also dropped.
Earlier brakes cost more to service, and cost £##### if the servo fails.

Thanks for info on bike

Thanks for the info guys this might be heretical (I think thats the word) but I rang M&S the salesman has a KTM 990 are they worth a look. I know that the BM has the name after the long way round proggie, but I am open to suggestions Thanks in advance Fishy23 ps more questions what are M&S newcastle like as bike sales?

KTM 990 has renowned fuelling issues, very jerky throttle etc. Better get a test ride, 950 carbed version smoother :thumb

Mine's 2007 and no servo:confused:

OK !
Mine's a 2008 also without servo - and I had it in mind that (2008) was the first non-servo year - I've been wrong before :augie

Does anyone know the exact year / month the servo was dropped ?

I had an 05 without servo so I think it was just the very first ones.......they're shite anyway, get an 1150:D:D

I bought a 04 one last May and it has been brilliant - done 3k miles on it since then and are totally happy.

Had 33k on it when I bought it from Robsons in York and a full and complete service history, immaculate condition as well.
