Here's the response to my recent (10 Nov 2010) enquiry about a one-way export of my 1150GS to Sydney. Note you may need a different combination of documents if you were only importing temporarily.
-------
Based on you delivering your BMW R1150GS into our depot near Heathrow (We can arrange collection from your address if you prefer), where we will pack into a motorcycle crate and ship by ocean up until arrival at port in Sydney, the price would be £745 (Transit time of approximately 6 weeks) or for £1345 by airfreight (Transit time of approximately 7 days).
These prices include freight, fuel surcharges, documentation, handling and export clearance. You will then need to pay any import and local charges on arrival in Sydney through an agent. If it helps you, we can certainly consign through our Australian agent who can look after the local formalities on your behalf.
We can also arrange insurance to cover loss or damage of your motorcycle motorcycle during transit. This is based on 1.5% of the bikes value + freight + 10%.
Copies of the following documentation are required when importing a motorcycle into Australia
* Proof of ownership/Registration document
* Bill of Sale
* Passport (photo page)
* Import Approval Certificate
The following websites should assist with the import approval certificates and general information.
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/importing_vehicles/index.aspx
http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/import/vehicles-machinery/motorcycles
I hope this helps with your planning and please do let me know if you would like any further details at this stage.
Kind Regards
