Hey all, just had my 14 plate R1200GSA stolen from Marylebone this afternoon. Was parked up, locked up and other nice bikes around it, it was only there for 1hr and 12 mins, so guess I was targeted specifically.

Not really sure why I am posting other than to spread the word as am fairly sure it'll be broken down for parts by now a few hours later!

Sorry to hear that....What's the number plate - so people can keep an eye out?

OE14 ZVA, Green, Sargent Seat, Metal Mule Top Box and rails, Termignoni exhaust and Altrider skid plate are the most obvious features, fair amount more on it but those are the best to keep an eye out for.

Do you mind if I asked if it was chained to anything or just had a chain on it? I'm not being critical just wondering for my own future choice of parking places

Also sorry to hear that. Hope everything goes fast with insurance.

Same happened to me. Scumbags.

I would say a lot of these bikes are broken in London. I regularly troll through eBay and there is always bits for sale from very low feedback counts and half the property the pictures are taken in, can't even afford a 500 quid kitchen yet alone a 14 k bike..
About time someone cracked down on the bastards

Disk lock was on, but in West Minster borough you have to park in Bike Bays where mostly they don't supply anything to chain to.....I am sure some genius thought that up! So I made best efforts as normal with steering lock was on, disk lock attached, alarm and immobiliser active. Was opposite Banque Paribas HQ which is a massive building with huge amounts of footfall of passers by and smokers etc. Middle of the day. Loads of other bikes in bay untouched.

Gutted.

Sorry to hear your news mate, any cctv? Probably inadmissible anyway!!! Fucking scrotes, hope they die soon.

Hi Oxforshirerider, that's a real shit  unfortunately there seems to be an increasing problem with bike theft in London.

I had a GSA stolen late 2014 from south London - I'd only had it for flippin 3 months. The insurance took a little time to sort but not too bad. One good thing about these bikes is that they are only really sold in BMW dealerships which means come fighting for a payout, you can tell your insurance that the like for like price is £XXXXX and you won't accept less. It's probably the only time we can be thankful that BMW control the prices so tightly!

Wishing you well for getting back on the road before the summer ;)

Sorry to hear this fella :(

I'm lucky that my office is just in Camden and they installed ground anchors into bike bays early last year. Still can't believe Westminster haven't got round to doing this yet :blast

Hope you're back on two wheels again soon.

Our landlord at HSBC Insurance Brokers very modern (multi-tenancy) office on Lower Thames Street installed ground anchors for bikermates to use. Nobody bothered as they couldn't be arsed.

If the cop dealing has anything about him or her they will check local premises for cctv coverage , however, a lot will not bother their arses , it may be worth popping into local commercial premises just to see if anyone does have any coverage which may help.

Personally I would also trawl Gumtree/ E Bay/Loot etc and see what comes up . A mate had his new Suzuki RMZ450 stolen from a commercial premises in Northumberland a few years ago, he kept a regular check on e Bay and lo and behold a couple of months later the bike appeared in the Notts area . He got in touch with the local police who viewed the E Bay listing and via their E Bay liason got details of the seller and paid them a visit. Turned out to be a well know local scrote and the bike was recovered and returned

Police said they will ask Banque Paribas to release their CCTV but I don't hold much hope.

With reference to ebay/gumtree listings etc, am I being naive when I think that it will just be broken down for parts, as without the key, surely modern day engines are not going to start as all electronically tagged. Or is the criminal underworld one step ahead and able to code new keys to sell these things whole?

Thanks BBB. As a matter of interest, how long did it take your insurance company to turn it around and were there any reasons for the time it took? I ask as I have a trip at end of June planned and will need a bike, but am starting to worry that insurance won't act that fast.

I'm not a 1200 owner so can't advise on the second part of your question...

... but one thing I would do is use an ebay 'saved search' for all the non-OEM parts you mentioned at the beginning of thread. Yes, it may be difficult to tell if it's your Termi can or not, but looking at the seller's other items/location can be a clue.

Do you park there regularly?
