A few times today when accelerating the bike stuttered and missed a few times before picking up cleanly. Is this a sign of the FPC about to fail or something else - where should I start looking or is it best to take it to a dealer to stick it on the diags machine?

I'm hoping to go on a Euro tour in a few weeks so need to get it sorted asap, don't want a complete failure in a remote location:blast

Could be many things mate - im only just learning myself. I have spare coils and a gs911 diag if you ever fancy a ride over to Banbury?

My FPC tuppeny piece

mine displayed symptoms of fuel starvation, (ie started ran fo 39secs then died, turned over fine but never caught)hooked up another bike to it then just turned it over till it caught, ihoped it was a fuel lock as it was near empty and been sat in the sun, it then ran fine for a a week , then wouldn't start at all, spend the £85 cos even if it isnt' now it will be one day and then you can fabricate a bypass lead with the old one http://www.motorcycleinfo.co.uk/index.cfm?fa=contentGeneric.nvxszdkebklxuaer&pageId=428065

What a great offer, many thanks, drop me a pm with your phone number and I'll give you a call. :thumb

My experience of FP failures is that they just go. We've had a few on our fleet of RT's go and it's always been pretty instant - not something thats a niggling problem for a few days first.... :thumb2

thanks, I thought that might be the case. So I need to look elsewhere.

Coil failure?

From an earlier post...

Sounds like a coil. i had one fail, it started under load but got progressively worse over a week or 2.

Biggest problem was working out which coil, tried all sorts of combinations and would ride up the road only for it to appear/dissapear. Also tried a new plug.

In the end I disconnected all the coils except one and started the bike. It will start quite happily on 1 working plug (don't ride it anywhere), after going through 3 of the plug/coil combinations the bike would not start - this is the dud coil.

Just to double check try the same spark plug with another coil and it should start.

Sounds fiddly but it takes 2 minutes.

So how many coils does a 1200GS have, I assumed 2 but "all the coils"? And where are they located?
