Bike stuttering when accelerating - is this a sign of an FPC failure??

I had the same thing on a tour around France recently. Usually manifested itself either at 5500 RPM when accelerating gently or straightaway under brisk acceleration. It could be cured by backing off slightly.

Turned out to be a coil connection problem if those symptoms sounds similar.

Update

Well I went round to leftofcentre's (Andy) today and he connected the GS911 diags tool. It came up with a couple of faults which mysteriously disappeared when we started the bike. We checked the plugs and they were fine, air filter also fine so we swapped the left hand plug coil with a spare that Andy has and I set off for home. The bike ran perfectly so it looks as if it was the left hand coil breaking down, I'll know for certain after this weekend as I am going down to Cornwall with some mates.

There was one weird anomaly; when we plugged the GS911 and started the bike the heated grips came on :nenau with the switch in the off position....bizarre

glad (hope) we got to the bottom of it mate.

If it comes back, try swapping the coil for the other side.

Incidentally, the two fault codes were

Crankshaft Sensor fault (not currently present)
Engine Immobiliser fault(not currently present)

Enjoy Cornwall. :beerjug:
