The next time I go to Europe (hopefully next Sept.) I'd like to use my Autocom with a Kenwood TK-3101. I see references to the 3101 unit on the board and assume it has the same frequencies there as here in the States. Are these radios permitted in UK, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland?

Bill,
Can't give you a definitive answer, but:
I know that the 'public' [ie family band or PMR ] wavelengths are different here than in the US. So a motorola walkie talkie for example has a different wavelength depending on where you buy it. It is not actually legal to use a US one here (I e-mailed our government about this !) but I looked it up, and you wouldn't actually be interfering with anything ie it's an unallocated wavelength, and it's very unlikely you'd be caught.
When we go skiing in USA, we use our UK wavelength walkietalkies and it's great - nobody else using the waveband.

you can use autocom with a mobile phone , you need a phone cable [ £5 ] and a connection for the phone .. its best if the pillion can work it as the phone buttons are small . voice activation ? dont know

Thanks guys. I just bought this TK-3101 and in doing the research (after the fact) I found that while its offered in many countries, its pre-programmed for different frequencies. Here in US it operates on the GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service), has 15 UHF channels, 2 watts. The first 7 channels are shared with FRS (Family Radio Service) radios. FRS is limited to 1/2 watt, no license required. For GMRS, a license is required. Lots of other rules but those are the main points.
