Bike to Bike on Bluetooth !

And what is UEP's charge for the alteration??

I don't know putting my adaption on the back of a larger order from work:augie

Surely won't be too much:eek:

Update:

Now used the Q2 for two weeks and here are my comments:

1) Fecking brilliant.

2) The GPS will not speak to you if you are talking to your buddy/pillion - you need to tap the control, to "toggle" between the paired devices. So it won't barge in as it were.

You can miss the odd direction if your busy chatting.

3) You have voice activation to speak to buddy one and manual to speak to buddy two (tap the button twice).

4) Nice, clear and loud but music quality suffers a little...so best for voice,GPS and mobile. Automatic volume control is awesome.

5) Not tried it with UEP fitted yet.

6) Completely water proof - did you see the weather this past week?

7) Lasts all day no bother on Bike to Bike and all week riding two and from work on phone and stanby.

8) Fecking brilliant for the money.

9) Fecking brilliant.

I spoke to Kevin at UEP last week and he said it was £25 per set.

I also contacted Scala about whether it was the Q2 could be used with an iPod and got the following response...

"To listen to music through a phone, MP3 player or GPS unit, both Bluetooth devices must have the A2DP Bluetooth profile for stereo audio. Currently none of the scala-rider products support this profile."

Does anyone know a way around this?

I thought it was supposed to automatically cut over to the gps if your were talking to another unit? thats what it says on the tin so to speak. Are you saying it doesnt do this. If that the case then I might as well stay with my cellular line stuff.

It does...just me getting used to the settings.:augie

Still very happy with the kit.:thumb2

Update:
I can use it all week commuting (100 miles a day) without charging, receiving and making calls and listening to the FM radio.
Rode in very heavy rain for hours – no problems at all.

Last week end spent the day with good wife on the back ; GPS/Phone does cut in if you’re talking. To reconnect just shout “hello” (or any word loudly) and it connects instantly once the GPS has finished. She found that the best word for her was “anker” (W) then it connected to me! :o Embarrassingly she did this just as we rode past an old couple walking their dog. Watching them in the mirror I think they thought it was targeted at them! I had my excuse ready and asked her to make out that she suffered from Tourette's Disease if we got pulled over.:augie

Also had a mate following on his bike. To speak to him (3rd device) I had to tap the MC button twice then we could chat (bike to bike) on voice activation. To talk to the Tourettes Queen tap the MC button once then it reverts to voice activation again.

Volume is more than adequate but you start to struggle over 100mph (I have a friend with an airfield:augie). Automatic volume control works fine and takes into account background and engine noise.

Music (Radio) and IPod is not such good quality (but good enough for me). Waiting to get me UE ear plugs and then it should be much better (but not stereo).

Absolute dream to get rid of the wires.:thumb

Highly recommended.:bounce1

Great info Gabby.

I have been looking at these for a while now and think I will go for the Q2 version.

One question, for now, I know you say the units charge holds really well but do you know if there is a 12v charger you can get for these, i.e one that plugs into the BM power outlet socket?? (I have a 955i Tiger but it has the same power outlet socket as the BM!)

I use the BMW navigator III on the Tiger, off my old BM, so guess it will link up OK to the system as it is a Garmin unit.

Fantastic information here guys, Thanks & keep it coming :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

I asked questions of Scala themselves, and they don't seem to want to respond, and whilst it is a shame that their interest in confused customers is LOW, at least this site makes up for their lack of service.

Some questions for you if I may

  1. I want to talk to pillion
  2. Pillion wants to talk to me (LOL - been married for too log - more likely wants to nag :potkettle)
  3. I want to listen to GARMIN QUEST (I know I'll need to buy some magic here)
  4. I want to listen to IPOD (could be bluetooth or radio connection) It seems that bluetooth will be MONO but would RADIO be STEREO?) I've already got the radio thingy for use with ipod/car
  5. Pillion wants to listen to different IPOD (could be bluetooth or RADIO adaptor)
I don't want to hear hermusic and she definitely doesn't want to (share) mine.
  6. Priorities for me should be GARMIN QUEST, PILLION, MUSIC
Is this possible, and what is the battery life like when using music all day?

Any answers appreciated

Cheers

thauma I took the plunge and bought a Q2 after reading this thread and have been very impressed so far.

I've got it linked to my phone via bluetooth and listen to my iPod via FM transmitter (you'll see in an earlier post that I contacted Scala about using the iPod via Bluetooth only to be told that it wasn't possible).

I've got Ultimate Ear adapting the Q2 to allow me to use my monitors rather than the speakers that are supplied. I asked Kevin Ironside at Ultimate Ear about the mono/stereo issue for the iPod and was told that FM transmitters are usually mono but sound will be heard in both ears after the Q2 is converted for use with the monitors.

In relation to you and your pillion listening to different music, that should be possible if you use different iPods each with FM transmitters set to different frequencies.

From reading the instruction manual, I think the system is set so that phone is the priority, thereafter pillion, then GPS, then radio/iPod. If my understanding is correct then the phone overrides everything including GPS directions for the duration of any call; pillion conversation overrides GPS but not phone; and you might occasionally get to hear 30 seconds of music in between answering the phone and being nagged by your pillion and/or GPS!

Hope this assists.

If you order them from the eBay link (see earlier in this thread) you get a free 12 charger (car type). Easy to adapt to a BMW/Triumph.

But hey you won't need it...they last beyond all day. I used them from 07.30 this monring to just now and they are still going!!!

Cheers

Cheers Gabby will get one ordered soon.

Between yourself and the other guys who have sung its praises I think Scala should be paying you a small commission :D

I had this on one occasion - found to be the pod not fully clicked home on the bracket....then it worked both ways. Push it on firmly.

Also check that the phone is set to allow "hands free" via Bluetooth...not all phones do this automatically and some don't allow it at all! Zumo site will give you a list of compatible phones...not all are and some functionality may drop out with some phones.

You may also have to activate the mic. with a firm and loud "hello" or simliar. Make sure the mic. has the yellow arrow facing your mouth and have it in the middle of your mouth right in front.

Good luck.:thumb

Thanks Tim :thumb2:thumb2, that just about swings it for me.

I'm in the market for a new lid, and I think that the scala will be a must have for touring.

I'm not interested in using the phone, so it's priority isn't an issue.

It's a shame about not being stereo for the radio, but as long as I can hear the music that's good enough.

I use UE monitors so there'll need to be a mod, but I reckon worthwhile.

The key really is access to music, Pillion(:bow) and GPS with NO WIRES.

Thanks for the info.:clap:clap
