i have just taken delivery of the auto com 300 kit pro rider duo and want to do bike to bike with my mates who have the same kit. I have been told to get a kenwood 3201 is this right? and how do you connnect it up to the auto com. Also does anyone have the physical dimensions of the kenwood radio? I have also been told that you can wire the kenwood up to the bikes power so that when you are riding you are running the radio off the bikes power instead of the radios batteries is this correct? if yes what leads do i need? i have never had an auto com fitted to any of my previous bikes so this is all new to me. But no doubt someone on this forum is an auto com anorack and knows what i need. thanks in advance.

what bike are you looking at fitting as this will help me to provide you with some part numbers and prices.

Kenwood wise 195mm x 58mm x 33mm

Rich

Ok so parts wise you would need the below then for your bike

1x Part 1358 £198 (Kenwood TK3201)
1x Part 1402 £27 (Kenwood dummy battery power and audio lead)
2x Part 1512's £24 (Bike to bike AUX din plug extension leads)

Extension lead wise we or I fit one onto the bike so the main din plug is coming out where the main riders headset plug is fitted. The second extension lead would run from the bike to the Kenwood so it can be ran on person or into a tank bag etc.

TK3201 Setup

I'm in the same position but a couple of days ahead of you! I've got my Kenwood but want to know how to set it up to work with the SuperPro?

I've checked the website and the various pdf manuals but I can't find what I am looking for.

In the past Autocom has recommeneded certain channels to broadcast on for certain transceivers. What do they recommend for the Kenwood?

How do you set the VOX up on the Kenwood to best work with the SuperPro? Is it a case of setting it to maximum on the handset and then letting the SuperPro take it on from there?

I would advise against the Kenwood, unless your regular riding mates have them also.

They are expensive, old fashioned bulky things, where channel and sub-channel selection is such a faff to match the frequency of more modern radios, such as the Wintec A80. Stems from the fact that the American Kenwood system divides the frequency range into twelve, and not the normal eight.

I have the A80, while my mate has the Kenwood. We can only hear each other about 10 feet apart, even though I have an external antenna and boosted power output.

Have a look at the Intaride site. They now offer another radio besides the A80.

If the two radios are tuned to the same frequency (proven by they can work at short range) then they should have a much very much greater range than 10ft.

I wouldn’t be in too much of a hurry to blame the Kenwood, it maybe badly located, I’d get a 3rd PMR radio even a kids one, and see how that performs with the others, it might help you find which radio’s causing problems.

Hi everyone...i'm new here:)

I have a superpro 300 and a kenwood tk3201 radio, my friend who i talk to a lot has a 200 kit and the same radio, before we bought the radios, last year we did the southampton-jog, then jog-le then home again, we decided that rather than use radios at all, that we would do it using our mobile phones, we had a 'family group' set up with vodafone, so that you can phone anyone in your group for up to 60 mins for free (£5/month), it worked very well, but we were obviously restricted to uk with it, it did drop a signal now and again and we would have to redial (which we had to do every 50 or so mins anyway without incurring costs), when we got back we decided to bite the bullet and buy the kenwoods, which we used on a trip the snowdonia, but they were aweful (we had them lying down in tank bags):mmmm

we have decided to mount them using ram mounts as with our garmins and see how they fair then...hopefully a bit better...i'll post back here after we do the testing probably in march now.....i think we decided to put the volume on the radio's at about half way....any advice would be appreciated...great forum by the way:D

10ft is a very short distance indeed, I can be stood outside work with using a handheld kenwood talking to a customer who is around a mile away from me and I am surrounded my metal buildings that take a lot of signal strength away from the radios. Even with using the Midland G7's which are our budget radios we have had around a mile between our test bikes.

So I would'nt rule out the Kenwood at all as this is the best radio we supply and we have never had any issues with poor range with them before.

Been there, done that. Tried with another mate's Midland G7. No probs. Clear as a bell.

O.K. sorry 10 ft was a bit of an exageration. But it is certainly within 200yrds, then it goes very feint.

I also use Kenwood which I find great with no problems. I'd guess we get at least a mile or more and I'm not sure but when I went touring all over Europe last year I felt sure the range was even better over there.:nenau
I bought all my kit from www.chainspeed.co.uk

Surprised at the short range.

Some of my radios dont do 6.25khz steps,so I use 5khz (446.005 instead of 446.00625) and dont find a problem with the frequency being a tad out.........its fm and the reference frequency will move -+ 3khz anyhow when modulated

It may be radio model specific as I have a kenwood THG71 which is a superb performer.

Is that with other Kenwoods?

Talking of Europe, don't think the Kenwood has 69 LPD channels. :augie

kenwood range

I can just about hear my mate if we both stand in our gardens, we live 3.8 miles apart as the crow flies and there is an airport in between us, so i take it from that, any problem i have been experiencing with our tk3201's is down to operator error i.e ME:toungincheek

Have you tried the tx mod?

Change R114 to 27kOhms or add a 56kOhm resistor Change C116 to 12pF or add a 10pF cpacitor add C166 a 0,75pF cpacitor.

The TX Amp is now the same as the TX Amp of TK-3200

Sorry Andy I seemed to of missed your reply here. Channel wise normally the kenwoods are used on Channel 1 with no subtones is used along side another brand of radio. So if a Kenwood was say to be used with a basic Motorola for example teh Kenwood would be set to Channel 1, as the Motorola would be set to Channel 1 subtone 10. This allows for them to all talk to each toher etc.

As for the VOX DO NOT TURN IT ON on the Kenwood as you will have two lots of VOX working on the bike causing a lot of false triggering. The VOX on your Super Pro will control the bike to bike. So all you would need to do on the Kenwood is set the volume and channels and away you go really.

No troubles, so if you are both using the TK's you can stick them on any channel you like then. Its only if you were to talk to another radio like a Midland or Motorola you would need to stick on channel 1 etc.
