Bike trouble

.... It's a worry this 'Triple black GSA' ownership lark. You should have gone for a different colour ;)

I did, was just worried this issue may be so virolent other colours may also catch it!
Be careful how close you park to other bikes, wash your hands after touching or even sitting on another bike, sterilise all your tools before letting them go near another machine etc...

Safety first :-)

Gazbo, any news on this? All sorted out?[/
Sent letter to dealership telling them I will not be accepting the bike back and want either a full refund or a replacement new bike. Funnily enough they phoned that afternoon to say they think they now know what the problem is. Cutting a long story short I'm now, with agreement of the dealership getting the bike replaced. My problem now is they have been unable to give me a lead time on this. I also need to remove all parts I added to my bike eg: oil cooler protector, crash bungs, frame inserts and various other items. BMW customer services have also agreed to compensate me for the time without my bike. Don't know what that'll be yet. Also told dealership I'll expect first service for free as I already had that done with original bike. So, although things seem to be progressing I'm still without a bike and still have issues to resolve. Will let you know how it progresses as soon as I know.

Whether you get a new bike or not isn't up to the dealer, it's up to BMW

Your contract from purchase is between yourself and the dealer and no BMW, this is where you would claim (i.e. send letter, take to court etc)

The dealer would then need to claim from BMW, obviously the dealer will be in touch with BMW and you could also engage with them as they would probably be keen to either get the issue resolved or avoid bad publicity.

I did this with ongoing issues on a new bike when the dealer did not give a stuff, my barrister advised first contacting the manufacturer to see if they would help, and if not said the next step is to demand a refund from the supplying dealer.

In my case the manufacturer picked up my bike a couple of days later and sorted everything out in a couple of days and gave me about £500 of freebies as a goodwill gesture.

Was at dealership over the weekend. Have to say I have no particular gripes with the staff there, after all they don't particularly want this to happen either. As far as I am aware a new bike will be ordered ASAP. Customer service has offered compensation of sorts, so it all looks good. I have no reservations regarding replacing the bike as when it did work it was an outstanding bike to ride. So, all in all although I have lost 5-6 weeks of bike time I'm pretty happy. Might have been different if it had been in the summer though.

nice one

Sounds like a good result Gazbo, keeping your cool appears to have paid dividends by keeping your dealer on side.

Hope your not waiting too long for the new TB to arrive.

Goods news about the replacement!

Can you tell us a bit about the problems you had with the bIke? What were the symptoms?

The symptoms were that the battery would not hold a charge when connected to anything electrical on the bike. The mechanics along with BMW worked through all the processes to rectify this problem. I spoke with the mechanics who have many years dealing with this model and they have never come across this before. Even BMW were perplexed. I am relatively new to this forum and there seem to be a lot of night school mechanics out there that given half a chance would have this fixed lol. These guys strip and rebuild these bikes day in day out, so I think their knowledge far exceeds some of the people who have made comments on here.

I guess he can only mean you:

If they connected an ammeter in series with the battery connection then they would see an immediate indication of the battery discharging. Then unplug stuff or swap stuff until it is zero. If it intermittent then a logging ammeter will be needed. Simples.

As you were the only one who related anything even vaguely in the 'Getting your hands dirty' department. All the other burblings related to violence, anger (or a more laid back approach) towards the dealer.... Oh, and some bod who thought the dealer might be in Essex...... and a 'worried Tripple Bwack' waller, who thought it might be the end of the world.

Unless of course he really means the bods who replied proffering suggestions to the question he asked.... "What should I do, should I demand a new bike, should I tell my mum? I am at the end of my tether" If so, maybe best not to reply in future, it'll upset him and he's a Jock.

I apologise if I offended anyone with my last comment. Just had it up to here with everyone telling me how it should be fixed. My original question was - What would you do in my position? Fortunately they have now sourced a new bike and I should have it shortly.

PS. I have lots of friends down south and I don't call them by any southern slang names. So please refrain from calling me a Jock as you are just showing your lack of education.

I werk with a Jock, who is harpy to be kalled a Jock. He went to Fettes so had a grate edukateshun. Cheers, Jocko.

Still none the wiser as to the cause of your problems other than there appeared to be some sort of parasitic draw on your battery , did they tell you which component was causing it?

I'm afraid they are no further forward in rectifying the problem so unfortunately cannot give you any more info. As soon as I know you'll know.

Well this Jock isn't too happy being called Jock. Notice you have a lot of posts on here, you should change your attitude and try and get some friends. Possibly get you out of the house a bit more. Instead of scrutinising this site looking to make cocky replies. What a sad sad life.

You won't be volunteering to go on any of his 'wanders' any time soon then... :nenau :D

Glad you got things sorted out. :thumb2
