Initial ideas sought gents.

No recent problems with the bike. 05 1200.

Bike had started and ran fine last night.

Out this morning and started it

Just looked at this on tapatalk and seems to have cut the end of the message off? I'll try again.

You suddenly seem to have been afflicted by the dreaded limited vocabulary syndrome.... Or is it turets and just being edited out..? :beerjug:

If you aren;t getting EWS

Open the fuel pump cover Dahoum is there water in there?

If so your relay is f**ked

Remove old fit new and new seal and Vaseline the fook outta it

Then make a rain cover for the vented fuel pump cover that lets water in

I've used a car mat and bits of oil containers as folks asked for one

I always leave the low side open to vent but cover it with the rain gaurd so water can;t get in

04 R1200GS still on original relay

Do you have good insurance cover and a box of matches to hand....?

Only joking.. sounds very much like fuel starvation. If it was an electrical problem it would be very doubtful it would fire up at all.
Check fuel lines, fuel pump etc.

Right, last attempt. I was cutting & pasting maybe that was the prob.

Now typing one fingered on the iBone.

It started fine but sounded very rattly and uneven. It runs with the throttle open slightly but stops as soon as I let go.

It was early so there was a fair bit of condensation from the end pipe but it seemed a bit smokier than usual.

I had to get to work so I couldn't investigate more.

Btw I've had a fuel pump go before and this was not how that happened.

Look in your Pump well and see if it's got lots of water in there if you have it's sensible to drain it out and lift the relay out and check below it and see is there water in there

All you need is reduced output from the electronics or the time interval to be too wide and you will have none or little fuel pressure

I will do later, but how likely is it to be that if the engine will run as long as the throttle is slightly open?

Surely an operating fuel pump is a given if that's happening?

The truth is that I'm making a long distance best guess of a most frequent problem and I have had a few that could do this but once you make a demand for more fuel (i.e. increase the revs) it overloads and shorts out

For a better attempt a GS911 is excellent with the 1200's

so... first chance to check it out today...

Started first time no problem and ran like a shweet thing - the twat. :eek :blast

Got the shit revved out of it tho

Fule pump well was dry but bottom securing screw was well rusty - all given a good clean and greasing. :thumb2

Lets see what happens on Monday morning. :D

Could also be wear in the throttle position sensor (TPS) on the LH throttle body, or just the TPS needing to be worked through full range to recalibrate it's settings.
