Biker friendly bollox

Back in the early eighties i parked my bike against the palace walls in Monaco. A guard in full national dress was doing his march around the palace and i asked him if it was OK to leave the bike parked there, he said "no problem" and carried on his march around the palace skirting around my bike every time he passed it.

Sorry wapping but i can't imagine buck house letting me do the same thing. :D

After nearly five years of living here, I tend to forget how friendly people and car drivers are. In all of those five years, I have only ever sworn at a few car drivers and they were mostly Belgian visitors.

my experience of France is that as soon as you get off the boat, it's all Biker Friendly.
never quite understood the need to look for 'Biker Friendly' places. :nenau
though if you live in the U.K. and you've never been before - i suppose it's a valid question based on experience in England, which is in some parts at least, not at all Biker Friendly.

as for um..... 'other road users' - the only ones i've ever seen stopped by Gendarmes or p1ssing off others have been Belgiques or..... U.K. reg'd vehicles :D

ah... the halcyon days of the early 80's... when German tourists used to set up their tents in Liz's herbaceous borders.....

......Happy days of idle summers, long before the War on Terror grasped the powers-that-be's psyche, rendering all harmless activities (such as pissing on the hedgerow) criminal offences greater than child molestation.....

I've stopped in camp-sites in this country where bikes are segregated and usually as far as possible from the amenities.

It's a bugger getting old.

You should show them your bus pass and ask to be put nearer the loos. :D

Although it does make you wonder why bike insurance is so expensive over here.

No mystery, we subsidise all the little tw*ts on scooters, insured and uninsured! I pay €500 with the maximum bonus, it won't ever be less! How much does one pay in UK now for a 12GSA fully comp?

Noticed it a few times in France and in Belgium earlier this year, and that is the continental practice of sticking the leg out instead of waving, very odd ? but they are all foreign, didnt take long to get into the habit, it just different that's all.

The leg out tends to be used to thank car drivers for pulling over to let you through and other bikes tend to get a wave or the reverse 2 finger salute, which is something to do with archers who back in olden days had those 2 fingers removed if they were caught by the opposition.

The right leg out to thank car drivers is very sensible if you think about it. We drive on the right and pass cars on the left, to wave would mean using your right hand at a time when you are accelerating past, so you use your leg instead.

I agree France is Biker Friendly - infact very friendly on all forms of transport, no hurry just patience...

Like route 66 though you will find Biker exclusivity in some B&B's and camp sites which has to be worth advertising as such places cater for everything motorcycle, and ommits the old couple driving the Rover with the blue rinse :rob

They are a great place for the solo rider to ride to as they are full of other bikers all sharing the experience of the road on 2 wheels.

500€ for insurance wow that is expensive... I pay that for my 3 bike with GAN ;)
