Right, I'm at a red traffic light, up hill. First gear and pulled clutch.
Looking at a girl with very short skirt passing by, clutch starts biting and bike tries to move but my left hand is still!!!
Engine stalls, so I switch on again and everything's allright again.

It happend another time ages ago...

Is it an X file or something?
Clutch-pump ready to go???

Bike's early 1150GS, 11,000 miles, clutch fluid new at right level.

They all do that sir. This is commonly known as SSS, Triple S or Short Skirt Syndrome. GS's and GS'ers are known to react strangely in the presence of Short Skirted members of the opposite sex. When the skirt is very short, it gets worse.

Either your clutch fluid needs bleeding (I think that the job is scheduled every 2 years - so you should have done yours already)

and/or

the master cylinder seal (or the bore) is shagged (or has grit contamination) allowing the pressurised clutch fluid to drain back into reservoir. You may be able to get a seal kit from Mr BMW.

If the fluid level is dropping over time, it's likely to be the clutch slave cylinder leaking.

:hammer

SSS

Cheers Greg, i'm happy it's not the SSS: riding in sheff on a friday night would have been terrible...

smell?

Paul: no idea, my nostrils were too busy with all those ferormons...

Wasn't there a problem with small holes appearing in the clutch fluid pipe on 1150's ? I seem to remember a few guys having this problem a while back.

why is the clutch fluid new ? Have you topped it up or have you bled it through ?

i'd say its air in the system or your clutch or slave cyl seals are leaking.

1100's have a cable clutch and never go wrong :) :)

:gosh it was not just u who liked the woman next time dont wait for it 2 stall pull up and chat her up:green gri

Despite what everyone says.....

Everyone is quick to condem the slave cylinder, it could also be that the mastercylinder is allowing air into the system.

Quick check is to bleed the system and observe the fluid as it enters the (clear) bleed hose or bleed container (jam jar). If there is lots of air bubbles present then this indicates either slave or possibly master cylinder seals leaking.

Check around the master cylinder for any signs of weeping and do the same for the slave cylinder.

Your 'short skirt' syndrome will probably turn into 'oap' syndrome and possibly 'bag lady' syndrome if either of the aforemantioned is faulty.

Christ its bloody awful driving in Sheffield at the moment so you either need to buy an old 1100...a la Motomartin... with ancient (liable to snap at any given point in time)cable clutch operation or get the hydraulics checked pronto.

I doubt that your clutch problem is due to slipping as this would cause the opposite to your fault, reluctant to move rather than creeping!

no more please

Gosh I spent most of my youth replacing vespa's clutch/brake/gears cables! I'll bleed the bloody thing again and see what happens.

See if you can send me some random girls to test the clutch again, ok?

Thanks guys
