Heading from Bilbao to Algeciras on 8/9 ... normally use Santander and wondered if best via Salamanca or around Madrid..... Planning one overnight

Via Salamanca should be quicker. just one advise, once you get close to extremadura the temperature will go up dramatically, try to avoid mid day. We did sort of the same route last week, around 20s in Salamanca and 35 degrees in Extremadura.

It's 36 C in my garden now!.........Lovely. I came through Sevilla at 9 O' clock at night on the way back from the Picos 5 weeks ago and it was 38 C. The heat is ok if you are dressed for it . I wear mesh jkt and trousers with a micro fiber t/shirt and similar fabric underpants and just pour water down the back of my neck and down my front. The mesh lets the air through to dry/ cool your body, just stop and repeat as required. Above 37/38 you need to zip all your vents up as the air temps are hotter than your blood temps, so the hot air will only heat you up. I did 1148 kilometre that day ( don't ask ). And drink lots of water.... Enjoy your trip down here.
