Bilco's Alaska Adventure

So dear reader, that's that awesome trip over. Just the bikes to load into the container next week for their return trip.:thumb

It all went according to plan thank goodness and we never broke anything or anyone which is a fine result. We had a fantastic group of guys and we didn't lose anyone and on a continent this size that's a miracle:D I think everyone really enjoyed themselves and took away some fantastic memories and have made new friends both in the group and with people we met along the way.

The scenery has been simply jaw dropping and the weather has also been very kind. We've seen all sorts of animals as well from Moose, bears to bison and black widow spiders:eek: Packer has been the animal photographer so I'm sure he'll be posting great pix in due course.

These trips are not meant to be sunday bimbles with photo stops every 5 minutes and are challenging both physically and mentally. The rewards are fantastic though and I'm sure everyone has taken away loads of positive's from the experience and will hopefully see the USA and Canada in a new light which is part of the trip ethos. Contrary to popular belief, Americans and Canadians are amongst the most polite, friendly and helpful people on they planet and they always took an interest in our trip:thumb

We covered a little over 8000 miles and all the bikes made it it one piece. There were 7 1200's, 3 1150's and one 800 with no major issues. All the GS's are staggering machines and this is the kind of trip they were designed to do. I can't think of one other bike which could do the same job without complaint and with the ease of a GS:thumb.

We rode on every type of road you can think of from fast tarmac to thick gravel and the bikes and riders took it in their stride and I think one or two of the guys surprised themselves with the ability and confidence. The smiles at the end of the day always summed it up. As someone said "it's like having the ride of your life every day for 30 days";)

Most people are on their way home now and I just wanted to say on the forum a huge thanks to everyone on the trip for making my job of getting you up to Alaska and back in one piece as easy as it could be. I'll be having a cold one tonight in celebration:beerjug:

Gordon is still out here riding somewhere and of course I have to sort the bikes out and unload the container for the second trip which leaves Santa Rosa next Saturday.

It's a tough job but someone has to do it........:D

It has been a pleasure reading your reports and seeing the pictures of this great trip you have put together.

What an adventure you guys must of had.

Glad to hear you are all safe and sound, well done.

Looked like a fantastic trip :clap

We're already thinking about returning to the USA and maybe a bit of Canada in 2014 and your photos have really inspired us :beerjug: We'll probably do a one way trip from SF to Denver taking in Glacier NP and Yellowstone along the way

Great reports and picturers, and nice to see your comments on the GS....

WELL thats me just home from the trip. For my part it turned out to be an outstanding event in my wee life so far,,, a great group of guy,s on an adventure up to the North. The pics just cannot do justice to the scenery ,You need to see it to appreciate the scale!!
My Sincere, thanks to you Chris for the effort that you clearly had to put in to make this possible. It,s not a holiday its an adventure !!!!!!!! :augie
If any of you folks read about this trip and are tempted, If you are a competent rider then just do it !!!! costs a bit, but to date it will have been some of the best value money i have ever spent on anything

I'm typing this in the Virgin Atlantic Upper Class lounge at SFO :D

I got home, completely jet lagged and knackered, what a trip, a most excellent adventure, just the best fun you can be having on your bike in fact (and off it)....:beerjug:

Wouldn't quite go that far Paul .............. but I did get the feeling you live a sheltered life!

Home at last and jet-lag receding so back in the land of the nearly living.
Outstanding trip with amazing sights around each corner.
Big thanks to Chris for organising this little spin around the Colonies and to all the lads taking part.
Pity i missed saying goodbye to the guys leaving in the taxi on Saturday as i was changing rooms in the motel.
Just one or two pics for now....
Not bad for an old girl with over 93000 miles on her now.:thumb

Bunch of fruit-loops standing beneath a sign in the middle of nowhere.
Lidless Gordon is now being eaten alive by mossies and shouting at the pic-taker to get the feck on with it....

Say ahhhhhh now. These friendly little critters were being wheeled to the entrance of the motel to be given away to whoever wanted one.
Immediatedly surrounded by ruff-tuff bikers making soppy sounds and going ooh-arr.
The one on the left licked Chris's face but is now recovering well.....:D

Just to prove it can be done....
US Ducati riders on the way back from the Dalton.
Tyres for 17" front wheels seemed to be their biggest concern.
Pic taken at the same place as the puppies we saw on the way up.
They were gone but we were assured the Ducati guys hadn't eaten them.
Ducati guys don't eat puppies;they eat Foccacia and Linguini although the 1200 Mutley rider appeared to have eaten Italy itself.

Good 'ol Gordon liked to do things his way;including falling off four times.
A couple of over the shoulder, point the camera in the general direction and shoot caught this little drama.
Gordon got caught out by the camber and went for a lie down.
A couple of helpful souls help Gordon right the bike while Kev goes for the camera.:augie
In the second pic we see Kev sprinting over to help when all the hard work was done.....:D
I did buggerall to help as i was taking pictures and trying not to fall off myself.
