So dear reader, that's that awesome trip over. Just the bikes to load into the container next week for their return trip.
It all went according to plan thank goodness and we never broke anything or anyone which is a fine result. We had a fantastic group of guys and we didn't lose anyone and on a continent this size that's a miracle
I think everyone really enjoyed themselves and took away some fantastic memories and have made new friends both in the group and with people we met along the way.
The scenery has been simply jaw dropping and the weather has also been very kind. We've seen all sorts of animals as well from Moose, bears to bison and black widow spiders
Packer has been the animal photographer so I'm sure he'll be posting great pix in due course.
These trips are not meant to be sunday bimbles with photo stops every 5 minutes and are challenging both physically and mentally. The rewards are fantastic though and I'm sure everyone has taken away loads of positive's from the experience and will hopefully see the USA and Canada in a new light which is part of the trip ethos. Contrary to popular belief, Americans and Canadians are amongst the most polite, friendly and helpful people on they planet and they always took an interest in our trip
We covered a little over 8000 miles and all the bikes made it it one piece. There were 7 1200's, 3 1150's and one 800 with no major issues. All the GS's are staggering machines and this is the kind of trip they were designed to do. I can't think of one other bike which could do the same job without complaint and with the ease of a GS
.
We rode on every type of road you can think of from fast tarmac to thick gravel and the bikes and riders took it in their stride and I think one or two of the guys surprised themselves with the ability and confidence. The smiles at the end of the day always summed it up. As someone said "it's like having the ride of your life every day for 30 days"
Most people are on their way home now and I just wanted to say on the forum a huge thanks to everyone on the trip for making my job of getting you up to Alaska and back in one piece as easy as it could be. I'll be having a cold one tonight in celebration
Gordon is still out here riding somewhere and of course I have to sort the bikes out and unload the container for the second trip which leaves Santa Rosa next Saturday.
It's a tough job but someone has to do it........
