I really shouldn't have said the PC was fixed........

No problems for 2 days then this morning all my old problems are back.

"My Computer" won't open, Internet Explorer won't start (although Firefox does), Eudora hangs and I've got the blue error screen again.

I know nothing was loaded or changed since I installed the USB network adapter which seemed to solve my problems. The PC has been rebooted a number of times between "resolution" and today with no problems.

So WTF can it be? Tried a restore to yesterday with no effect. The latest Norton Ghost recovery point was even earlier so that suggests that nothing has happened to change any significant controls or settings.............

Any further ideas apart from those already suggested?

Cheers

Dick

Doh!!

Sorry Dick :(

From some of the things you described last time my money's on a faulty RAM chip.

There are some resting utitilities around...a long time since I had my RAM problem so I can't remember what I used to diagnose it, but there are some here;
http://active-hardware.com/english/benchmarks/benchmarks.htm

I'd still be inclined to do a full reformat and clean install though....that will at least make sure it's not a software/dll/conflict type problem.

memtest is the common tool used to check memory.

did you try just reseating the RAM, graphics card etc?

I tried Memtest and the Microsoft version last time but it showed up no problems . Not tried reseating the memory but it's worth a try I guess.

Whoa there dobbin!!!!

Dick...make sure you have a strap on (no, not that sort of strap-on, a proper anti-static one  ) or at the very least make sure you earth yourself on the PC casing before touching any of the components, or what might have been a good chip/card will rapidly turn into a pretty dead card.

If you have a small make-up brush (or borrow one if you have to ;) ) then you can use that to de-fluff the card....don't use a man made fibre one though or it'll make static.

A shaving brush (clean and dry obviously) will do nicely.

should be fine as long as pc is plugged in and you've touched the case somewhere it's not painted on the way in. pretty hard not to really :)

but you knew about anti static precautions didn't you?

Actually I did but I appreciate your concern :D

Have you looked in the 'System Properties' under the 'Hardware' tab and are there any conflicts showing...usually denoted by a yellow question mark ?

Otherwise, could you please post some details of what PC, processor, ram, operating system any other hardware and internet connection type (dialup or adsl cable BB etc) and if BB whether a modem or router is used.

Thanks mate. I've run all sorts of diagnostics and not found any problems or conflicts.

I've just reinstalled windows and I'm gradually reloading all the software I was using before and watching to see if it happens again.
