Bit of an essay.....

So tackled the job of fitting an 1150GSA tank to my 1100GS today.....

The tank came with the innards and the crossover pipe, but no other pipes so I bought some fuel pipe, metal quick disconnects, and the breather/vent pipe. My original tank had the plastic disconnects.

I fitted all the new pipes to the tank and replaced the cheaper disconnects on the bike with the new ones from Motorworks.

Everything went fine so I mounted the tank and put 5L of petrol in to check for leaks and sure enough petrol was dripping nicely out of the crossover pipe quick disconnect (which came with the tank when I bought it).

On closer inspection it seemed that the hose connector on the female disconnect was split. With no better idea, I fitted the female quick disconnect which I removed from the bike to the hose of the crossover pipe and secured it with a jubilee clip.

Anyone know will this work ok for me? I'm mainly concerned with fitting a QD with a hose connector for an 8mm internal sized hose into a 5mm internal sized hose? I did tighten the jubilee clip fairly tight and ran the bike for around 5 minutes with no leaks.

Am I ok or a fireball waiting to happen?

That hose is pretty tough stuff but it will probably let go when the rubber gets a bit old, most likely on a lonely road somewhere :augie
A cheap fix if theres enough length on the pipe might be to get a reducer for 8mm to 6mm pipe into the line somewhere.
