Bit of a Broadband saga!

I've been a Tiscali customer for a few years now and generally they get the thumbs up

I was originally paying £27.99 for 1/2 Meg and when I complained that new customers were getting the same for £24.99 they 'realigned' me.

I was then told, early this year, 'good news' we're upgrading you to 1 Meg for free. I was then told that BT hadn't adjusted my exchange (presumably to SDSL) and I couldn't actually get 1 Meg yet but that it would happen eventually, courtesy of BT.

Tiscali then offer me a chance to renew with a new customer package so I choose the 2 Meg one at £17.99, much cheaper but still only actually getting 1/2 Meg but waiting and hoping.

So here's me sat fat (well fairly thin actually), dumb and happy until BT offer me a 2Meg package. I check this out with them and they confirm, yes 2 Meg is available at your address.

Then I found this website which is very handy:

I also found another website which gives loads of info on all the BT exchanges but can't find it a 2nd time around.

Well to cut a loooong story short, I phone Tiscali, in India and a 10 second job later they give me 2Meg!!

So Tiscali are not reacting to BT's exchange upgrades very well are they!

Can't be any worse the dontWanna - fine as long as nothing goes wrong, but woe betide you if you have to use their 'customer services'. Worst I have ever known....

Hi mate, it's all down to the length of your line, but every exchange (Bar a few in far flung locations) have had their DSLAM installed for 2mbps. You could be next to the exchange but still have a line of >6km which would give you 1/2 meg at best. SDSL is symetrical, very expensive, and normally for business, you'll be on ADSL. It's all down to a cost thing with all suppliers. Higher bandwidth, less profit.

Tip: Anyone wanting a better deal for BT B'Band, phone 150, ask for the Broardband COT department and say you've been offered 2meg for 15.99. You'll get it for the same price, plus, depending how good you are, 3 - 6 months 1/2 price..

Only UK call centres except for Tech help out of hours...

Avoid them like the plague - Got a good physical service from them until customer services then debt collectors got involved - vvvvvvvv long story will submit seperately if your interested.

Fraid so my friend, well, i was in sales, then network, now about to leave.. Jot a cushy job in a bank! Bit of a change. Start in a few weeks so i' going to have a bit of time off..

I was the worlds oldest Killick.. well, for a sundodging stoker that is, then made up to local acting for 2 years, if i'd have not taken Raleigh i'd never hve got it on a perminant basis. You came up through the ranks? Good man, 80% were from the ranks on the boats, hat's what made it better than the general service..

Happiest days, miss it a little too much, makes for an unhappy household at times if you know what i mean..? Years of "Wish you could be home more" to, "well why did you leave" to "P*ss off back then"...

Anyway, hope you got your car out..!!
