BKS Police Gloves

With all this bad weather and choosing not to go out on the bike I’ve decided to look at some new gear for when the weather gets better and in particular investing in some new summer gloves.

I’ve already got a very nice looking pair of fully perforated Revit leather summer gloves that despite looking the part are completely useless as Revit decided to line them so you don’t actually get to feel any airflow whatsoever!!

Decided I don’t like the feel of any of the Klim gloves despite being a big Klim fanboy so happened across the BKS police gloves on the Motolegends site, look great and full leather construction which I prefer to the fabric or fabric/leather construction.

Does anyone have a pair and what are they like, comfort, airflow etc. I’m a big fan of Held gloves but thought it would be nice to try something else.

I bought a pair when I last visited BKS at their old site. Brian gave me a used pair to try and I was instantly taken, so I bought a new pair that took a bit of breaking in, they are without doubt my favourites.

I have a similar pair of Klim WP gloves, which are ok, but not a patch on these.

I’m fairly sure they don’t make these gloves themselves but as someone else said I can’t see Brian selling them unless they were absolutely great.

I have both the Summer version, vented & non waterproof and an Autumn/Winter pair, none vented and waterproof.

Both work well in the UK, only on the hottest of days are the Autumn/Winter pair too hot and the summer pair work well from April to October.

The Autumn/Winter pair are the most comfortable and my favourite gloves for use here in the UK.

Neither pair are suitable for 30c+ or below 5c.

Both well built and feel very protective. Both pairs made in Pakistan.
Autumn/Winter purchased from MotoLegends. The Summer pair direct from BKS.

I’d happily buy either pair again.

For very hot weather I wear Lee Parks summer gloves, in Winter it’s a pair of AlpineStars JetRoad.
 
I picked up a pair of the BMW goatskin ones with the vent on the knuckles. Not waterproof. Fit me like they were tailor made.
Best summer gloves I ever had.
 
Have a look at the rukka hero 2 gloves, very similar to the bks ones, I have a pair and once broken in they are fantastic summer gloves.

Now I know for a fact they are not. I don't know where on the site that statement is made. However last night a send a email to Brian ref the gloves, fact check.
I hope this settles the question.

I used to make the BKS gloves in house up until around 2010 and at that time one pair used to take around 25 hours to make.
They cost £400 per pair.
The components and trims you now see in today's gloves are so vast and impossible for small production runs, virtually every brand in the industry has gloves made in large factories who specialize in volume. Some gloves today are really fantastic and there are others you wouldn't even wear in the garden!
I design every last detail in the current BKS gloves but I do use a third party to make them for me and have worked with the same supplier for 14 years.
We have a great relationship, they know we are fussy and they make us a really high performance, safe and well engineered product.
It is worn by our UK Police riders and in these last 14 years we have sold over 5000 pairs with next to zero failures.
Our glove today is better than the ones we made back then and we sell them for circa £150.

PS. For context, when I had my BKS jacket ordered it was around £800 (mine was close to £1100 with extras ) so a pair of glove was super expensive. Around the same time Held came out with a first : a pair of glove which was almost £200. No one was in that price bracket. Top of the range Held is now close to £400 and now you can have a custom fit.
However, the BKS was unique. They were truly made to measure. The glove was hand cut.
Even when gloves are "hand made" 99.9% use glove cutting die, they come in various size, thickness and finger length. So if you are a size 7 3/4, you probably have to go a size up ETC.
Thanks to Chester Jefferies for letting me visit the factory and explain the glove making process. They made me several gloves for a project.

As I stated above they are made in Pakistan, which is clearly marked on the label inside the gloves. It does not take away from the quality and fit.

I’ve taken three pairs of Rukka gloves back over the years, I won’t buy them anymore. I agree they were very comfortable.

Aside from Brian Sansom’s gloves, which other brands are top tier nowadays?

Subjectively, many new gloves feel lower quality than before.

Poor stitching stories abound for Alpinestars. Dainese downgraded from quality hide to cheap synthetic suede for many of its gloves 😕

Held gloves still seem superb. Who else? Five gets glowing reviews of its pricier products—have you tried them?
