Having been dilatory (slack) about posting pics and experiences whilst modifying the bike for two years, I am attempting to remedy this by posting modifications, experiences and (hopefully) pics of the results. The pic upload seems amazingly complicated but here's hoping:
Paint job
Truly excellent work from the Dutchman at Motorrad Concepts in Edinburgh. Nice as the new black is, the silver knee inserts (see pics) are a IMO a nicer solution. The colour is v. dark blue so the registration doc does not have to be altered.
Hugger, long front mudguard and number plate extension
Again, from the Dutchman in matching colour. What an excellent and helpful guy. Rode up from South Lincs and back in the day - all done quick and easy - quality products, quality guy.
GPS holder
The Dutchman again - a beautifully machined peice of kit.
Screen
Tried MRA Vario - nice but rubbed with GPS holder and anyway a bit narrow. Settled on Nippy Norman's dark tint, normal height, slightly wider than stock - effective and looks nice. Added Tobinators - seem to help.
Winglets
ADV part. Thank God for these - transformed the riding experience - easy fit - do it!
Seat
Have long upper legs and need to sit further back than stock. This site v helpful and went for Touratech one peice but made the mistake of going for the extra height option. Nipped across to Melvin Hunter at Coventry - remodelled seat whilst I waited - inserted gell pad (mistake I think as the contact with the bike in hard cornering is lost and it feels as though it is squirming) - Mel is an exceptional man - helpful and interesting - great value.
Exhaust system
After a great deal of deliberation, went for Remus front and Akrapovic (BMW) silencer. Marked increase in power and torque, as evidenced by other threads - plus 10% improvement in fuel consumption - transformed the bike.
Other bits
Nippy Norman: Reyno grill - looks nice. Clear indicators, yellow bulbs - nice. Stand extender - sensible. Wunderlich: Lift handle - nicely made and useful.
Faults
Rust all over front engine cover - replaced under warranty. Two sets of broken bolts in centre stand - crap design blamed by BMW on my (apparently unusual) habit of pushing the bike off the centre stand whilst seated on it. After doing this with at least 10 previous BMs, this is the first not to tolerate it.
All in all a magnificent motorcycle, used daily over 24,000 miles.
All the best
John
