Wots all that red stuff in the built in picture frame?

:thumb mine's a black one too, I find they have one big advantage over silver and that is when they corrode you simply rub down and touch it up with black paint, when it is done you can't see the difference, with silver any touch up is difficult to hide, and yes they are definately faster!

My engine cover is black.. but only because the silver paint work was so corroded that I decided to get it powder coated matt black in an attempt to reduce the chances of it going the same way... its a bug*er to keep clean though...:augie :D

Cheers... Sue...

Any particular brand / type of black paint? Mine could do with a blob here and there....

As long as it's Enamel paint, it will do. It is heat resistant, well enough for engines anyway.

Try enamel radiator paint if you can find a satin black, Smooth Hammerite in satin black is a good match but I've only seen it in aerosol cans. or try Humbrol model paints.

black

silver 02 adv with black engine

if it's a bit scruffy chuck some acf50 on it, brings them up a treat

Rob

I picked up a black engined 1100gs on an s plate just over a week ago, havn't attacked front of engine with armourall yet but it's not noticeabley grubby, My mate has used Hammerite Smooth(silver) on his gs and seems to be an excellent colour match

ok stupid question...

surely the black engines will radiate heat better, I know black absorbs heat better but I also thought it dispensed it quicker…

wonder why the standard colour is now silver, a colour which I thought absorbed less heat, but also dispensed it slower…

or am I just tired and talking bollox??

Dunno but my local dealer has a 1200S with black engine, gearbox, paralever and FD. It looks lovely (should've done that to the 1200 Adv).

When the black engine came out in 03 (?) one of the motorrad guys here expressed fear that the paint would chip in certain areas. It never happened to mine but I could see his point.

Is it just me...

... Or does anybody else find all this talk of black engines offensive.

Surely it should be engines of colour.:thumb
