Try dipping the ignition key in a light machine oil (not motor oil) then using it in the ignition for a few cycles then simply wipe clean and forget. This should wash out dirt and lubricate the mechanism.

Don't use heavy oils or grease as it will just attract dirt and cause internal wear to the lock.

Also your ignition key might be worn. BMW will cut you a new one for £25 ish.
