Hi you guys have been really helpful but I have 1 more question -

HOW DO I BLEED THE SERVOS ? (03 R1150GS with EVO brakes)

BMW were unheldful and another 'specialist' said it was a 'specialist' service item and 'are a bastard to do'- i thought GS's were supposed to be easy to service !

Please help me once again guys .

Thanks

Printing now - cheers v much. Bike shop doing it tomorow so fingers crossed :thumb

I was in the same prediciment a few weeks ago, I had read everything I could find about bleeding the servo brakes but still it didn't tie up when I tried to apply the proceedures to my bike (ABS unit looked different for a start!). In the end I swallowed my pride and decided to ring some dealers for prices for a full system bleed, I was a bit surprised at the difference in the prices I was being quoted but I eventually got Woolastons to do it for £82 (their initial quote of about £150 was silly and I told them so!). What are you paying?

Ah well, see if I can work it out for next year. :(

It went for a service with a shop where the man was trained on BMW's - prior to evo brakes- before starting his own Suzuki dealership bout 15 years go, then decided to go it on his own 5 years ago, small shop recomendations only so hes keen to get it sorted properly, so if a diy'er can do it i'm sure e can.

Service was £100 inc fluids but excluding bits cos i got em through motoworks inc K&N airfilter and new fuel filter.

Ill let you know how i get on tomorow.

this bleeding brakes business on the servo equipped bikes is not the black art it is said to be, expecially by BMW. I was asking the same questions earlier this year. I spoke with the guru that is Steptoe, who's response was short and sweet and amounted to forget all the old bollox that is on the PDF file tha does the rounds.

Which I did, and di it without resorting to making funnels and blocks to go in between the pads. Basically, I bled i the normal way, starting with the fluid cylinder on the handle bar, then did the servos, then the calipers. it really was simple, if a little time consuming, compared to a normal brake system. You don't even have to pump the brake lever like normal, as the pumps do the work for you.

Took about two hours. If you want any specific advice, p.m. me, and I might be able to help, if thats of use.

Banana.
My problem was that when I took all the instructions (including Steptoes) and then looked at my unit I couldn't work out where to start. It may sound soft but without undoing things I couldn't work out which were the reservoirs, which of the four bleed-nipples on the unit I should be playing with and also whether it was possible to bleed the system with the multway plug disconnected as with it in place it was practically impossible to get access to at least one of the nipples.
Does any of this sound familier or do you have a different (earlier) unit? I am only down the road and would be willing to pop over just for a chin-wag (no point doing the actual bleedng again as I have just paid to have it done).

Dont like black magic - prefer steak and kidney pies !

Im down in lowly kent and not been a fully paying member - yet - (i spent my money on a service ha ha !) so i cant PM you- if that PDF file is bollox which do we just bleed the system one nipple at a time ?

Or you can e-mail me the details (see earlier post for me e-mail)

I'm gonna do the brakes with the bloke as thats the only bit of the service i can't do meself now.

AAAAARRRGGGGGHHHH ! Everyone is been really helpful but im afraid ill cock it up - I use me bike everyday (including today - the fairy lights only came on once !) - argh well who dares wins.

Which German fellow (dont wanna upset any crouts) designed this stuid system ?

Woops did I say crout - sorry forgot the word sour (like me at the moment) in front ! :thumb

For the attention of Big Al Litch...if you want to bring your bike over some time, no worries, I will point out the bits and bobs to look for.

You can't recieve p.m.'s as I see you'r not a sponsor, so e-mail me, and i will then give you a fone number mate.

[email protected] is the address

Cheers
