Bloke looking a Bike brought back from Mali

Take a spare drive belt!!!!!
New belt fitted before outward trip - do you still advocate a spare?

Have a read @ f650.com - the write-ups for a few CS fixing tips.
The belt and the excenter could be a problem if not OK, nothing else fits.
Worthwhile to know how to tighten the belt without beemers special contraptions.
The large 55mmm alu castle nut is a headache if tightened too much, the onbord plastic yoke won't shift it.

What's an excentre? I have modified that castle nut; ground it to a hex - easier to bodge. Have a repair manual on a memory stick & made a wooden centre stand (yes wooden & don't tell me it woulden't work)

Good idea to bring a spare belt:thumb2...................
you can always be sick into this:D

I'm stuck for words

Gerry,

mind yourself - i personally would have doubts about travel through Mali.

North & East if Timbucktoo are dodgy - otherwise it's as safe as Limerick :D

So Gerry that's a firm booking for a full report at next year's Horizon meet?

Not sure I know me but might know me better after trip

mauritania/marocco 15hrs+money.paul.

Transferring bike into my name - so I'll have log book; complications may still arise

. .hang around for the festival in the desert

Not on 'till Nov

Gerry the Exocentre is the eccentric hub centre that you adjust with the torx screw at an angle and secure with the two bolts at the back to tension the belt

Taking a belt is a great idea except you have to remove the swingarm to fit and at the price of them?? an AA card is cheaper

The CS belt guard wasn't great initially, was changed later.
I had a belt working fine with a few dents in it from the chippings.
A 'carbon fibre' brush fitted, to avoid stuff getting trapped in the belt?

Please read up on the lights, these can be fixed when prised open.
Had to fix mine with the innards rattling loose and some melted wiring and burnt off teminals.
f650.com have a few threads about it.

Haven't seen a new or used belt on ebay for ages.

Used a wooden centre stand, copied from the japanese CS enthusiast, a handy seat too.

screws on the eccentric do rattle loose, probably due to the arcane fastening procedure.
