A lead acid battery is very much effected by how it is initially charged prior to placing it in service. Be sure it is charged slowly so not with a battery charger designed for car batteries, one or two amps charging rate max based on A/H's of the battery. Charge the battery overnight at a slow rate until it is fully charged don't just add the acid and give it a quick 4 amp , two hour charge and then install it. On other battery types, dry cell, glass matt type etc., follow the recommended charging procedures to the letter and be sure the charger being used is as recommended for the type of battery. I learned this the hard way!
