Bloody batteries!

A lead acid battery is very much effected by how it is initially charged prior to placing it in service. Be sure it is charged slowly so not with a battery charger designed for car batteries, one or two amps charging rate max based on A/H's of the battery. Charge the battery overnight at a slow rate until it is fully charged don't just add the acid and give it a quick 4 amp , two hour charge and then install it. On other battery types, dry cell, glass matt type etc., follow the recommended charging procedures to the letter and be sure the charger being used is as recommended for the type of battery. I learned this the hard way!

lead acid, mobilityscooter battery, had it on my k75 for 4 year's, still going strong when i sold the bike, £30.00,
or just follow the fashion victim's and get an oddesy/motobatt,

battery?

Im in the same boat. 2003 1150gs adv had it for about 8 years. When I bought it the original battery was still fitted and lasted about 3 years with me. Then replaced with an Exide, Varta then a Yuasa all lasted just over a year. I dont do a lot of miles and no electric in the garage. Is a Motobatt a good bet? the one for the bike is about £70 on ebay?

Cheers guys

Anyone purchased a battery for K75 recently ?

Interested if you went for AGM, Lithium or maybe Hybrid

thanks

I just fitted a yellow motobat yesterday onto my r1150rt it cost me 110 quid from a local bike parts place.the reason I fitted the motobat is because that's what came off.

I've just purchased a Motobatt Hybrid for my 1250 so its very early doors, but I am blown away by it.

I had loads of problems with my 1250 hardly cranking (or failing to start) when hot, This thing feels like it could rip the crank out. The voltmeter display hardly drops with the hybrid and it instantly bursts into life, whereas the old BMW Exide AGM battery would just crumble with the effort.

Being an electronic nightmare waiting to happen, a weak battery gave me all sorts of other issues like nuisance warnings, tracker alerts etc. Now all sorted with the new Hybrid.

I paid £151 from Motorworks but they can be had elsewhere for £127 delivered, see the thread "Big Pile Of Dogshit" in the 1250 section for details.

EDIT: Try here.....

£83 from Tanya
Give it a year and your be fitting another one  Exide 19ah used to be good, expect 5 to 7 years from them, now junk batteries, after the 3rd one failed in 3 years (R1100RT) I have switched to Motobatt

Not had much luck with Motobatt batteries, in the past & didn’t last ….hence the swap back

Current Exide in my other 1150 is 4/5 years old and is fine

All batteries are much of a muchness these days
I will try another Exide for & time will tell

Fitted an exide gel in my 1150 RT last week, Transferred the still ok 5 year old exide from the RT into my 1150R as the 8 year old exide battery in the R was on its last legs.

I have used Exide for the last 30 years, used nothing else, all lasted well on 2 bikes, but recent (brought in the last 2 or 3 years) the quality seems to have changed and I have got through 3 new Exide's in the last 3 years, enough is enough (and its a bit of a PIA to change battery on a R1100RT) and will give motobatt a go, have read many good reviews (y)

I'm doing nothing wrong, I know R1100RT inside out thanks more than you I guess, it's a bit of a PIA to remove the L/H fairing and bollocks it's quicker to change than a GS :D

15 years solid owning and riding 1100/1150RT’s, had my current 1150RT 6 years. And fitted a new battery last month, and the RT battery went into my 1150R customer loan bike… now that is an absolute pain in the arse to fit .. 2E7897F3-C894-477C-9BDB-B2D779D715E7.jpeg
