hi guys,

just read a thread by the manager of parklane, london. he says there is possibility of him getting you a 1200gs quicker.

if he is not telling porky pies, i wished that i placed my order with them! went to my local dealer, john clark (tayside) to check the status of my order and they showed me my gs is on for middle of november build. bloody hell! it was ordered 3 weeks ago with the promise of october delivery and now it has been delayed!

the nice sales manager claimed the reason for this is because there is huge demand for gs' with the spoke wheels and therefore this has caused a back log. not sure if he is being truthful here!

a question for your more experienced bmw aficionados out there;
would it be better off going down to london or any other big city in the uk to obtain the ultimate riding machine? what are the pros and cons? ( there really shouldn't be any? after all, the warranty is nationwide and the price of the gs is same all over)

i envy the guys who are already out there riding theirs and i have to sit and wait for another 2 months

i knew i should have shopped around before putting down the deposit! :(

happy riding, guys!

It'll almost certainly be worth sitting down with the phone for half an hour and ringing round dealers radiating outwards from you.......practically every week someone posts about a cancelled order they've seen somewhere......with a bit of effort you should be lucky.........

The only downside of this is that you probally won't get exactly the spec you want...you'l probably have to settle for whatever colors etc the muppet who cancelled ordered, but there's every chance you can swap panels here if you don't get what you want....try a search and you'll see what I mean.....and others have gone down the painting route which seems reasonably priced too.

Good luck!!!!;)

Most of us guys who got their bikes this month placed orders in February or March - so a couple of months is nothing! :)

According to MCN's web site, and a BMW Press Release shown on the Forum somewhere the R1200GS is the best selling bike in the country bar none!

I can't remember a non sports bike topping the sales charts for the last twenty years, but when you get yours you'll realise why it was worth the wait!

If you really can't wait then for sure ring around, else just place a deposit with the dealer you trust to look after you 'after' you've bought the bike from them and 'try' to be a little more patient! :D

In fact with all the bad weather and road salt that's about to hit the country soon, why not order a 1st of March bike and specify you'll take the 25th anniversary Adventure version in black if they're available by then?:beerjug:

Waiting...

.. I ordered mine when the world was black and white... well, it feels that way - I think it was March or April... I've forgotten it's so long ago...
... Should be arriving to UK soon... 23rd, says the legend...

I've not been that bothered about the wait, as my finances haven't been the best, and the summer weather has been very bad... but I'm looking forward to this bike now more than I was looking forward to the first big new bike I ordered. :D :D

You've got two choices really;
a) Order the bike of your dreams, to your spec, and sit there and wait - when it arrives, I'm sure it'll be a very good thing.
b) Overcome the fact that the bike you wan't isn't going to be the one that you're going to get, and go hunting; classifieds, for sale section on this forum as Dutchman suggested, and ring around for cancelled bikes.

With a) you don't have to stress, and can focus on the longer term, with b) you'll have to put down a lot of effort, but the reward is an "instant-bike"

I chose a) not only because of the reasons above, but also because it's my first beemer, and I'm intending to keep it and I want it to be my my my my bike, to my spec.

Take your pick! :)

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a supply problem with spoked wheels. I needed a new pair of wheels after my dealer made an error with the wheel cleaner when valeting the bike (oops!!). The front wheel took 3 weeks to arrive, and the rear wheel took about 6 weeks.

Still, it saved me having to clean the bloody things.

This is why I am going to chose option A. I want to keep it for at least 5 years/100,000 miles so it has to be perfect. Of course, I will also be improving it in my own special way.

Hmm, I dunno if I get your lingo here. You are saying that your dealer made marks on your rims when they cleaned it for you when serviced or what?

Hmm, there is a slight possibility that this dealer is not very true about the delivery reports. Quite often the scenario is that all dealers get the same estimated delivery date. Dealer A adds two weeks when telling you, since he won't let you down and he has experienced that no deliver reports are true.
On the other hand, dealer B either says the exact date, or an even earlier date because he knows you might order from him instead.
A cancelled order is something else, if you chose that. But don't be fooled when ordering a completely new bike. The delivery time should of course be the same between dealers.

Hi

My 1200GS was ordered earlier in the week and i got exactly the spec I wanted (blue with grey panels, black seat and an alarm). I am fitting the panniers and box plus engine bars. Being delivered next Friday!

Can't wait!

It may be harder to find a bike with wire rims, but Rock Red, Black, Black, H. Grips by 18th Sept, Ocean Blue, Black, Black, H. Grips, or same with an alarm by end of the month.

Naturally, we would like to find a customer a little nearer to London, otherwise you'll miss out on the free 600m service if you take it to another dealer, but if that's okay with you just give us a call.

Kave:

Yes, they used the wrong wheel cleaner when valeting it. They used a rather nasty car wheel cleaner which is rather agressive and etched the alloy of the GS wheels immediately. It also f'd up the alloy side panels behind the tank as well so I got a new set of those as well.

Someone had put the wrong cleaner into the bike wheel cleaner bottle apparently. Best of intentions and all that, and they've sorted it as quickly as possible so I dont really have a problem with it.

i called park lane and arranged for a test ride at the begining of june and was told that the waiting list was as far away as october and about 3 weeks later the sales executive by the name of graham jones sent an e-mail to me asking if i was interested in a canceled order which would be available around mid august and after speaking with graham on the phone he arranged the delivery date to coincide with the sept 54 plate and i collected my bike on the 2nd sept and i was still able to change to spoked wheels and my choice of colours yellow, grey, and black seat and i am now the proud owner of a beautiful 1200gs motorcycle
and the only complaint now is from the wife that she never sees me
